Not quite myself lately in the happiness department, but I am, and will always be, "one of those nutters" that loves bday stuff. So you guys did a pretty good job of making me smile. Thank you. (sincerely)  And thank you to the hubby for being sweet and thoughtful in front of others, I know it wasn't easy. And it did make me happy. xxxx

Disappointed that Rob thought I was above a boob pic on my fb though. (jk)

Oh you'll get one next year now!

Amazon's fantastic customer service.

8 weeks ago I purchased a Toshiba 2TB external HDD.

On Monday it started to make weird noises, as if it was about to fail. I transferred everything off it before it was too late.

On Tuesday I contacted Amazon via website and clicked the "contact me now" button. The phone rang immediately.

I explained the problem. They emailed me a returns note and label. I have to take the parcel to the corner shop, 50 yards away!

On Thursday my replacement drive was delivered, before I even returned the faulty one.

Top customer service! :clap::hooray::thumb:

Whichever employee plugs in your failing hard drive to see if it still works is going to have a HELL of a shock...

But I emptied it!

Anyway, the porn is on a different HDD ;) I always keep the smut and the mainstream stuff on separate drives

Was going to post that seeing a new slow blog entry from Neil Peart has been posted cheers me up, but the Benteke news makes that pale in comparison.

Anyway...

Like Prohibition, the rise and fall of communism is sometimes written off as a “Noble Experiment,” but any way you look at it, collectivism is precisely the opposite of noble. (Once I wondered about the fanatics behind both communism and fascism, “Were they evil psychopaths or just misguided morons?” I decided it was a mix of both—the deadliest combination in history.)

Riding through so many backroads and villages in the former East Germany, and spending the night in Dresden, there is no doubt things are better now—yet they still lag behind their compatriots in the former West Germany.

And if the former Karl-Marx-Stadt is now back to Chemnitz, I was still genuinely surprised—even appalled—to ride into the former East Berlin along Karl-Marx-Strasse. Likewise on a previous tour, when Brutus and I crossed out of a ride through Poland at Frankfurt (the secondary one, on the Oder), and my eyes widened to see their main street still named after Karl Marx. These days you don’t see any Hitler or Stalin streets, and Leningrad is back to St. Petersburg, yet it’s a safe bet that no individual in history has been the cause of so much slaughter and suffering as Karl Marx.

(His only competition might be the imaginary ones, the Deities—referred to by Marx and his buddy Friedrich Engels as “the opiate of the masses.” If you ask me, it’s more like the crystal meth of the masses.)

Been up to Whitby for a few days. Fantastic weather, ignored all news sources until this morning - and got the Benteke news!

Oh, YES....

Did my own (DIY) oil and filter change for the first time in many a year (possibly the first time this millennium?). The testosterone is just coursing through my veins.

(the downside of the 1985-93 DeVille's downsizing* from previous generations while keeping a reasonably large (4.9 liter in this case) V8, is that the oil filter is perhaps the least convenient location possible... one essentially has to remove the air intake to have any hope of doing anything with the oil filter)

*: 1984 DeVille: 221 inches L x 76 inches W, 122 inch wheelbase (4,000 lb curb weight)

1993 DeVille: 206 inches L x 73 inches W, 114 inch wheelbase (3,900 lb curb weight)
