Then we would have to build a team that doesn't rely on one or two individuals. We need a team that consistently works as a cohesive unit with every player knowing their role and responsibility because, right now, we're looking like a team that's lost it's way, and this time their is no Jack to come and save us. Pretty sure that was said when Benteke left. It's no good if you replace him with more punts and projects from the lower leagues. In an ideal world we stay up and we then in January and in the summer sign proven top level players to start building the club up into a credible 11 challenging for europe over next 2-3 seasons. That will tempt him to stay.

And let's be honest, you couldn't begrudge him wanting to achieve all he can.

At least he’s showing passion for the cause, I don’t think he’s captain material personally, I think Mings should be captain. It is NOT the Jack Grealish show, he needs to keep his head down and let his football do the talking, it was a brilliant goal make no mistake

I think we get 10% more out of Jack by being captain, his performances at the end of last season and this reflect that. Someone like Mings will lead regardless, he doesn't need it.
chips'ngravy
When you have a player of the talent of Grealish who is capable of running a game on his own it's ridiculous to station him out wide. We desperately need him pulling the strings in the middle and I find it incredible Smith is persisting with him on the wing. In the last two games the opposition have cottoned on to the fact that the tactic is for Jack to turn inside and drive into the centre and they just crowd him out. He still manages to jink through on occasions but he's not nearly as capable of affecting the game as he is in the middle. When he understandably gets frustrated with the ineptitude of his colleagues and drifts into the middle there's inevitably nobody on the left for him to pass it to. In the last period of the game after he'd scored you could see him motioning to his teammates as to where they should be running which really reflects badly on Smith and suggests that in certain phases of possession he either hasn't given them clear enough instructions as to what to do or he hasn't given them any instructions at all. I'm not one of the ones calling for Smith's head but what I witnessed today points to some serious mismanagement of the team. Villarocker
I agree with chipsngravy's post about Jack needing to be moved back to the middle behind the striker. Our attacks will come down both wings then instead of just down the left where Jack is supposed to play.

I find it very difficult to understand how a supporter of Aston Villa could look forward to watching the finest player we've produced for an eternity going to play for another club. Jack leaving might also bring with it the demise of our own club but, hey, that's OK just as long as you can watch Jack Grealish playing for a Spanish giant in the Champions League several times a year.

Because it pains me not seeing my favorite player fullfilling his talent. He's surrounded with clowns and i feel so bad for him. He deserves better. It's like a poor relationship. You always f*** it up, always making mistakes and generally drag her down to depression. You know deep down that the best thing you can do to her is to let her go and let her find happiness and fulfillment again. Jack needs to adapt to what the opposition does too, not just follow what's been agreed before the game. We need someone else to be able to score too so that Jack has an alternative and who the opposition needs to worry about too. With all his flaws, Conor is the guy in this team. Farlz
I know I made comments about Jack playing his best football out wide and bringing him back into the middle wouldn't make much sense but with McGinn now out for 3 months he simply must be put back into the middle of the pitch. useless
Do people forget that we've only won one game with him playing in central midfield, he might perform well as an individual in that position but as a team we suffer, we could get away with it in the championship, but in the premier league we need three specialist midfielders, otherwise we'll just get overrun in midfield. Not to mention that he's been much improved himself since moving out wide.
wilko154
Find it baffling how people can say he was poor yesterday. As the focal point of the team, he's being played out of position in a team that is trying to play everything through him. With Grealish in the centre of the pitch, the ball moves to him and he can carry it or dictate the play from the middle of the park. For the last few games as we have struggled he hasn't been able to influence the game pushed out on the left side of the pitch. When we are playing well, our midfield is ticking with McGinn then by all means play Grealish left and let him attack. But when the last few games have been the times to play him inside and run the game for us. We don't deserve him at all, if this carries on much longer he will be off in the Summer and in years to come we will be looking back with a lot of regret. birdman
Another fantastic goal from Jack yesterday! Also good to see he had another crack at goal from outside the box which had a decent amount of power on it. Hope to see more of this.

Not to mention that he's been much improved himself since moving out wide. He only played in the middle for 6 games and in reality we should have won 4 or 5 of them. Can you explain which of the midfielders were specialist midfielders yesterday? You say we need them to stop us being overrun but it happened for 90 minutes yesterday. Grealish's attacking qualities are improved on the left, but he helps the team out more in the midfield. Without McGinn we have nobody to carry the ball and retain possession. Yesterday we gave it away so much that we made it easy for Southampton.
