Corcaigh
O'Neill would just play him at RB anyway

mjmooney Posted August 21, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted August 21, 2014 I'd much prefer him to play for Ireland. Just to spite the English national team who I loathe. But... but... England hope the naming of Wayne Rooney as captain by the end of next week will rebuild public belief in the national team following the World Cup. Phumfeinz
Perennial underachiever and overrated remnant of the 'golden generation' being made captain. Wonderful. My belief is restored.

Popular Post Isa
Talks on a new deal have started according to this. Paul Lambert will try where Martin O'Neill failed by attempting to obtain a commitment from Aston Villa starlet Jack Grealish on his long-term future. The 18-year-old was yesterday named in Ireland's U-21 squad for the concluding UEFA qualifier in Germany on Friday week, despite informing senior team manager O'Neill at a meeting this week that he wasn't ready yet to pledge his senior international colours to the mast amid renewed interest from England. Demand for the teen is not restricted to the international sphere. Grealish was a target for top English clubs long before he featured as Villa's first substitute in last Saturday's Premier League win at Stoke City but his precarious contract situation has intensified Lambert's eagerness to secure him on a long-term deal. Grealish has just eight months remaining on his current contract, leaving open the possibility of negotiations with suitors in January should Villa fail to agree terms with the player. It is understood talks on an enhanced five-year deal have begun and, while there's no desire on Grealish's part to defect from his boyhood idols, the emergence of rivals heightens the importance of newly-appointed chief executive Tom Fox getting the contract over the line sooner rather than later. http://independent.ie/sport/soccer/other-soccer/lambert-seeks-commitment-from-indemand-jack-grealish-30529951.html Edited August 23, 2014 by Isa
skarroki
I think people took what I said the wrong way. If I was a young player coming through this club right now, yes I love villa and would want to stay, but noone knows what's going on at board level right now and until a new owner came in or Lerner committed himself to the club again I wouldn't sign a contract. Not because I'd plan to leave but because you don't know what will happen in the future if there is likely to be change. Money is factored into it but only partly. turnbull
The thing is, as far as footballers are concerned, there really isn't much a risk in signing for club in Villa's situation. If they sign a long term deal and the club gets sold and turned into the next Cit£h then great. If it doesn't and it goes tits up then they can whack in a transfer request and go to pastures new, more than likely on an improved contract.
Rodders
there really shouldn't be an issue with Jack if he truly does want to stay here. He's young but knows he's valued. Get's what will probably be quite a significant payrise now he's into the first team squad, and long term security, and even if he wants out, he'll likely get it as players have the power anyway. I would lean to saying the fault would potentially be with Jack's agent if no deal ever get's signed, it would just be absurd not to - we got other contracts signed earlier in the summer, no reason why this one should have delayed itself like this so far.

He doesn't have an agent, it's his dad. As far as we were told, up to a couple of weeks ago no talks had begun. Hopefully it's sorted soon. MikeMcKenna Posted August 23, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted August 23, 2014 Felt really sorry for Jack today as he nearly had his VP debut. Lambert was just about to put him on when Cissokho was injured and decided he needed a Baker instead.

No doubt he will get more chances but it would have been a nice start to the season, we really need to change our home form this year.
maqroll
If he's good enough to be on the bench, he's good enough to start. We don't have any other player with his flair, it's wasteful to keep him sitting.

DCJonah
The performances of our front players will probably give grealish more playing time than he thought he'd get over the next couple of months.
