theunderstudy
This partnership the last two batsmen then a very long tail. Whether England remain in this game is basically going to be decided in this next hour. Edited June 30, 2023 by theunderstudy
sidcow Posted June 30, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted June 30, 2023 Root 10 and Stokes 17 in the most important innings in the ashes. Not great.

bannedfromHandV
It feels like Stokes’ personal form with the bat has been pretty poor since he became captain, I think he’s had a few knocks in the 40’s and one half century? He’ll get a pass on that as long as England keep winning but at some point it’s going to become an issue, although you feel like his entire career is on a constant knife edge anyway with the knee injury. Rodders
he keeps making terrible decisions just to - so it seems - encourage the others. It's bloody daft. Could have lost another eicket or two this morning but got lucky with more mishits. Still over 100 runs behind. Just mad. Get another 60 or 70 runs secured first then put the foot down

Too quick to write him off. He could produce a match winning knock second innings.

Avfc96
Absolutely f****** braindead. There's a difference between attacking, like Duckett or Pope were yesterday, scoring at 5 an over and not taking any risks compared to the batting since which has just been trying to smash every out of the ground. Ashes are gone.
theunderstudy
**** appalling. Stokes' wicket is the only good ball Australia have bowled to take a wicket and even that was defendable This is **** embarrassing on a flat pitch with Lyon out

bannedfromHandV
I love watching Brook and I think it’s undoubtedly an absolute future great of the game we’re watching but those baseball-esque slap shots are not going to get him anywhere.

KentVillan
As the old pros have said several times over the last few days, bowling relentless bouncers is exhausting. Don’t give away your wicket and eventually the attack will stop. IMO problem we’ve had in both tests is we’ve made it much easier for Australia to manage their bowling attack by gifting them a wicket in each spell. It keeps the fielding side fresh. Proper test cricket is about wearing down the opposition. It doesn’t mean batting like Boycott but it does mean accepting you’ll have little spells where the scoreboard doesn’t tick over. And then you can bat aggressively when you sense weakness. Australia have done this well. They’ve outsmarted and outplayed us.
