CVByrne
Jesus Christ, I was just discussing the actual usefulness of the feature. Why the hell does everyone think everything is about Android vs Apple for **** sake Because of your entire posting history to date I'd guess. That stopped like half a year ago, people need to move on. The merging of the iphone threads shows most have moved on from that pretty crap. Most. Certainly I have. Now please can we all move on and stop thinking every comment has an ulterior motive.
Stevo985 Posted October 27, 2011 VT Supporter Share Posted October 27, 2011 Apologies. But as Rev pointed out, your history suggested that was what you were getting at. I take it back.
CVByrne
No worries. I just found that the need to have the gps on limits the usefulness as you need to remember to turn it on, or have it on all the time and batterylife is like the most precious thing. So conserving that is more important for me. I'd love location by masts though. Google maps somehow knows generally the area where I am just via the masts so it's certainly possible. limpid Posted October 27, 2011 Administrator Share Posted October 27, 2011 To be honest I've never really found the location the feature of much use with locale or tasker as gps is always off unless I'm using google navigation. Tasker and locale can both get position data from the BTS neighbour list and wifi SSIDs even with GPS off. I was on a Virgin train the other day and had to turn the wifi position check off as the map kept jumping back to Euston when I was in Liverpool. You don't have to turn the GPS on, it just uses it automatically. I guess you have to turn it on if you have disabled it, but I just leave it to use it whenever it likes. But yeah it does drain the battery a bit. MIne's down to 30% (it's nearly 10pm as I write this) and I haven't used it too much. On a side note, I had a temporary phone last week while my iPhone got repaired. It was an old school mobile. Charged it fully on the Sunday. A week later on the MOnday it still had half it's charge left. Those were the days

Stevo985 Posted October 28, 2011 VT Supporter Share Posted October 28, 2011 8310 was my second phone (after my 8210 got robbed). Great phone. This one I used was a Samsung e1080i. I can assure you that the 1080 had nothing to do with resolution!!
Stevo985 Posted October 28, 2011 VT Supporter Share Posted October 28, 2011 On a (nother) side note, I discovered yesterday that despite fixing my phone, the insurance company also appear to have broken the microphone, which means I can't speak to anyone on the phone. Obviously I'll speak to them and get them to fix it, but has anyone had this before? is there an easy fix to save me the hassle? Basically if I phone someone or try to record a voice memo or something, all you get is white noise.

Guest
Got a few problems I cannot seem to solve. I a trying to transfer a shed load of photos from my Iphone to my desktop, it starts transferring and then suddenly stops - only doing a certain amount of them with no reason to stop, it'll say "22mins" or something so I start browsing the net and suddenly it finishes. Secondly I cannot sync to itunes as I just get "waiting for items to copy" and it sticks for ages an y ideas?
ED
Just had to re-download all (but one of) my **** apps after a sync wiped them all. Shouldn't a sync try to replicate whats on the phone with whats on the PC, not replace 50 with 1, ie wipe 49. Grrrrrrrrrrr
under_the_bridge
I stupidly upgraded from a 4 to a 4S. It's not that much better apart from the gimmicky Siri thing whose novelty lasts for a day and the slightly better camera. Battery life is significantly worse. Since a full charge at 9am I now have 68% battery life left. This is after one brief phone call and checking my emails twice. Oh and will someone please explain the purpose of an iCloud email address? I now have 3 email addresses and I have no use for the iCloud one. The battery life will be fixed with an upcoming update, Apple know about it and will release iOS 5.1 soon.
