Murky 123 rules as I recall it, group of 4 to 8 needed. Group went off and hid, person who was it had to go and find them, hider, if a predetermined post was unguarded by finder, they could run to it, touch in and say murky 123, if finder found person, then finder had to run to post and say murky 123 Peter behind the green car, etc. Hider could race them and be safe, and then could go off and hide again.

Rush goalkeeper here. Briefly was referred to as “fly keeper”. Can’t recall why.

Yeah Wembley, similar rules to those mentioned. 

We used to play a game called 60 seconds. Essentially it was the keeper v everyone else.

The keeper would count to 60 and we would have to score a header or volley past him (not allowed to set yourself up). Sounds easy, but we made especially hard work of it.

When you score, keeper then counts to 50. Then 40. Eventually it’s then 2 goals in 60 seconds, 2 in 50 etc etc.

If you fail to score, whoever touched the ball last goes in goal.

We played as adults and I remember my 30 something year old mate having a proper strop and refusing to stay in goal when we got down to 3 goals in 40 seconds.

Cool. We never had 60 seconds, but we did have headers and volleys. Being that these were the only ways a goal was counted. Or sometimes just headers and volleys in the box, normal shots elsewhere.

Did anyone else play in the street? We used a case ball (no flyaways allowed), and we became experts at chipping the ball very slightly to get it onto a kerb while dribbling.

Yeah I think pretty much all the games we played had the fundamental rules of -

1. Headers allowed everywhere. 

2. Volleys allowed anywhere outside the six yard box (not allowed to set yourself up).

3. Shots from off the ground only allowed from outside the penalty box.

4. I’m not fetching the ball. It’s your turn.

House down the road has started what appears to be a pretty big fire in their garden, and unless I'm mistaken it is closer to the (cheap, thin) wooden fence than I'd be comfortable having it. I hope it's in a brazier or something...

Mad how complex we could make games when we were kids.

Variation of Acky 123 was kick can and run or kick ball and run where if the "on" person strayed too far away a nearby concealed person could run and boot the ball/can ask far away as they could releasing all the caught people to go hide again. 

Of course if the seeker got there first he'd catch you. 

Always a good shot at glory if nearly everyone was caught and you saved them all. 

Bloody annoying as well if you were on and sent back to square 1

Game was like hide and seek. One person was on and counted to whatever, 60 seconds or something, while everyone would hide. 

Then the person who was on would come looking, and once they were far enough from the...lamp-post in our case, and you thought you could beat them, you would race them back to the pole. First one back would say 'leekie 1,2,3 and the person's name', and you would either be out, or you would survive to hide next round. If you were out you might be the person looking next time, depending on if you lost at ip-dip. 

I was very good at Leekie. I could do the 100m in 13 or 14 seconds as a kid.

Indeed, although I only came across that variant on a holiday in Cornwall, where the whole campsite would join in between massive games of cricket. Awesome times.

40/40 is interesting. You can see how the variations given so far could have come about by Chinese whispers, but that is really different. Where did you grow up?

What's your rush keeper? Sounds like it might be our 'fly keeper'. We had that, or last man back. Fly keeper could play outfield but he was also the only one who could be the goalkeeper i.e. handle the ball. Whereas last man back was exactly that. Whoever was last man back was the goalkeeper for that attack.

it wasn't set for the duration it just changed hands even if you had to declare who it was you could do that whenever really, but you couldn't change it mid-attack

I don't think anyone's mentioned yet that whoever won wembley went in goal. I liked wembley for this reason as instead of the worst kid (me) being chucked in goal it was invariably the best kids instead.
