Being invited to a stag do, and it's in the UK. on a similar sort of theme couple of my mates are turning 50 , so lads weekends being arranged my suggestions - Vegas , Moscow , Beirut Group conseses / suggestions - Brussels , Hamburg , Copenhagen ... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz would only have been more dull had they suggested Amsterdam of course it's their weekend and I'll go regardless but the lack of imingaination makes me a bit meh about the whole thing .. in years to come you want to look back at these landmark events and say "well that was a a bit different" ... my 40th and crossing the date line and thus turning 40 twice was that a little bit different and will always raise a smile when i think about it (turned 40 in a bar in Auckland , left the bar at 3am , did the harbour trip at 10:00 , took a flight at 15:00 to Apia and landed there the day before my birthday , so turned 40 again in a bar in downtown Apia .... actually took a day trip to American Samoa the next morning 9and still my birthday) so had a beer in 3 countires around 2000 miles distance on the same day ) and Samoa has moved back across the dateline so it can't be done anymore ... Maybe everybody isnt as loaded as yourself? Auckland, Harbour trip, flight to Apia, American Samoa...I believe Simon Cowell looked at doing similar for his 50th thought it was a bit pricey so decided to hire the Dorchester for a party instead. I imagine just getting to Vegas, Beirut or Moscow costs a bloody fortune. We've sorta done this debate before ... One weekend I was home alone so I went to Oslo for the weekend cost me about £150 for a return flight and hotel Apparently that makes me loaded The same weekend someone on here bought a return ticket to Newcastle on the train for £200 and paid £50 for a match ticket and is just an ordinary bloke Travel doesn't have to be expensive , you just have to know how to make it work Auckland to Somoa was £50 by the way , virgin blue used to do some cracking air passes 2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

People have to take time off work, leave the family at home, be able to afford it etc... These are things people don't take into account when organising stag do's and similar stuff abroad imo. Everyday life is different for everyone. You have to compromise a little if you want everyone to go. If my mate organised a stag do to Vegas I wouldn't be able to go due to a host of factors. It'd like to. But what's more important? Where you are or who is with you? Exactly this. Whenever I get married, my stag do will be abroad. But I'd keep it fairly close to the UK (or a cheap destination if further afield) to keep costs down. I'd rather go to Spain or Germany or something and be able to bring 10 or 12 mates, than have it in Vegas with only the 3 or 4 who could afford it. A stag do in Vegas would be incredible, but I wouldn't want to ask my mates to spend £1500 to come on it. Fly economy then Thing is with my group is that if it was held in Brighton or America it would be the same ones of us who went The ones who don't trust their wife / girlfriend won't come regardless of the cost and will use the excuse that she won't let them go Yeah I appreciate money is also a factor and to be clear I wouldn't expect anyone to get into debt over a lads weekend , but arguably once they have decided they want a do and they have a limited shot at things it should be more imaginative than Amsterdam ( with apologies to any Dutch people , im just all Amsterdam'd out having been so many times on stag do's ) As I've said travel doesn't have to be expensive , I'm sitting on a plane to Zagreb right now return flight £112 with BA (Ok slightly more as I had to pay for the wife and kids as well ) you can pay that for a train fare to hull , and I think we've established nobody wants that I'm sorta lucky in that I have a couple of like minded mates that when I say lets have a beer weekend in Palestine they say "yes"... Hence why not throw Beirut out there and see who is daft enough to say heck , why not it worked with Chernobyl last year when 5 of us went for a lads weekend Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The pizza cost more than the taxi. So yeah, it is possible, if you are flexible, to go interesting places and find 'value'. I drove 3 of us to London yesterday because Great Western wanted just over £200 EACH to get us there by train. It cost £40 in fuel so we 'saved' £540. I don't believe this is relevant. The point was, unless all of your crowd are suitably wealthy its a bit harsh to be down on them for not being keen on having a huge blowout in Vegas / Moscow just because you could comfortably afford it. Morning fry up, morning & afternoon at the beach, fishing and bbq at a river lodge/cabin on the evening with more drinking. Home the next morning. Similar thing here, I didn't want to be hungover for the wedding so i'd arranged it for a week before and my old fella telling me that would be the sensible thing to do. So, it was just a group of around 15 of us. Off to a few of the locals, then a late night curry and a few more beers. The night before the wedding, the old fella says me, the best man and myself should go up the pub for 'just a few'. Ended up back at my parents house around one in the morning, drinking single malt whiskey after 6 or 7 pints in the local. It was a good job I was getting married at three in the afternoon, and a good job my mom never caught my dad after chasing him around the garden shouting "I can't believe you got him drunk!". As usual with these places, be wary of the free credit/bets as they come with very high play through limits before you can withdraw anything. Also, how does it work with regards to withdrawing? When I signed up, I had £20 free then deposited my own £20. My deposit was then matched giving me £60 in my account. How do I know if the money I am betting with is from the bonus money or my actual money? Click on your account (cashier I think its called) and then there is a bonus tab, there it splits out your real money and your bonus and shows how much you need to play through before you can withdraw anything above your original deposit. Because I too had accepted the bonus money the play through was something like £600 however I was playing the slots game with the footballers like Messi, Rooney and Ronaldo on it it came down quite quick and I was winning along the way. Peaked at about £200 up but had to spend to get through the play through limit. Smaller 'inner circle' drinking session the evening before just to be fashionably 'rough' on the day. Church wedding was free, my missus made her own dress (which was a stunning piece of art, she has a talent), reception was at the social club of my dad's factory*, buses laid on for guests was a present from a friend that was a coach driver. Old school collective community activity back then, 25 years ago (and cue hovis music....). *er, the factory where he worked, he didn't own a factory. We had the marriage, went to a pub for a buffet my parents paid for, at 7 a group of 20 of us got a minibus into wolves and went to blast off. It was a great night.
