StefanAVFC Posted December 27, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted December 27, 2013 Bit of a drive then! I'm so used to it, it's not that bad. Only in crap weather does it seem to take forever. And listening to Maine radio these days, you'd think you were in Alabama- every other station plays country music or has some insane Pentecostal preacher yammering on about the End Times. New Hampshire was like the South in the North East. Made me laugh when we used to drive to the 'Barnstead general store' and it looked like a cowboy town. Wasn't expecting that from an East Coast state.
Ginko
Yeah, it's the place where Salem's Lot is set.
maqroll
Yeah, there are parts of NH and Maine that are very rural, and quite conservative, too. NASCAR and country music are big up there now, which I find funny and sad. Sometimes, I'll even see a Confederate flag. It's like some of them feel some kind of affinity for redneck culture. Part of that is probably due to a mutual disdain for Massachusetts.
StefanAVFC Posted December 27, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted December 27, 2013 Then you go to Concord like a 30 minute drive away and it's like being back in Mass!
maqroll
Yep, those small cities are basically an extension of Mass. Same with southern Maine and northern Rhode Island, for that matter.

maqroll
I've lived in NE all my life, and never been to Newport, RI. It's supposed to be a good time. Providence is a decent little city.
StefanAVFC Posted December 27, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted December 27, 2013 I have a friend from Providence who says it's great. When I was working, one of the trips was to a place called 'Mystic Aquarium'. Here's me thinking that the 'Mystic' part was part of the name, trying to make it more effective. We rocked up on the ferry and the place was actually called Mystic. Bloody Yanks.
maqroll
Yes, Mystic, Connecticut, right? Not far from Foxwoods casino, the only reason ever to go to Connecticut We have the Mystic River in Mass., but there's nothing mystic about it now, it's a stinking polluted mess.
StefanAVFC Posted December 27, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted December 27, 2013 Yes, Mystic, Connecticut, right? Not far from Foxwoods casino, the only reason ever to go to Connecticut Yeah. I went supervising a boat load (literally) of kids so no casino's for me. Saying that I did enjoy the beers in Portland.
