privateer
Parma ham all the way. Wasn't too keen on the violets when I was a kid but would eat them - wouldn't touch them now, though.
mjmooney Posted July 31, 2009 VT Supporter Share Posted July 31, 2009 My mother thought I was stark raving mad when I used to say that A tasted like the smell of B. So it fills me with a warm glow to see that either: 1) there are people saying similar things about parma violets & old ladies' handbags. or 2) only Risso saying such things but other people understanding what he means. If my old Mum were still alive I'd show her this thread. Taste and smell are very much connected aren't they? The smell of certain kinds of varnish and the taste of pear drops. For many years I lived within the boundaries of Wandsworth, London SW18, between Earlsfield Station and Southfields (District Line). Nearby there was something called The Wandle, a river apparently which ran down to the Thames and gave off the most amazing stench. At that time (late 60s, early to mid 70s) Youngs, the local brewers, produced an excrescence jokingly called Saxon Lager, which very clearly tasted like the smell of the Wandle. Which is probably why they discontinued making it.Goats' chese tastes like the smell of goats. Yet, paradoxically it's nice (IMHO). Sometimes pork/bacon can taste like the smell of pigs, which is not so nice.

Straggler
If you run out of parma violets you could always chow down on some potpourri. Don't they make those extra large ones that you can find in a blokes urinal?
wiganvillain
If its possible, I can think of an Artisan Glacier in Nice that could make Ice cream out of it Fenoccio's its called if ever you go and yes they do Violet flavour Ice Cream, along with lavender which is even better, though the two do make a nice combination pour deux boules How weird is that, My brother in Law (who was in Nice in June) said the same thing last week when he was down for the weekend I used to think he had taste
ender4
how about Parma Violets wrapped in Parma Ham?
flamingsombrero
I would suggest the following additions to the poll; "But I REALLY like Parma ham" and "I eat the Violets because its all that is left in the swizzle multipack" Then I could more accurately take part. Genie
I love 'em!! Oh and by the way, this thread reminded me that I have an unopened packet of refreshers in my coat pocket. Anyone in the Lichfield area might want to pop to the new 'olde Sweet Shoppe' that has opened, all those fantastic sweets from yesteryear (fruit salads, black jacks and 100's of jars of bon bons, rhubarb and custard, rosey apples etc.!!) heystally!
I can't vote on this thing. My reaction to parma violets would be very far from "yum yum". But I wouldn't rather eat parma ham because I'm a vegetarian. I'm lost in limbo!
