Rocafella
The most biased poll ever? One just signed a new contract and the other is perhaps leaving the club... Barry has had several consistent seasons being a club favourite and recently the captain. Petrov played in a Micky Mouse league as an attacking midfielder - joined us and nearly got shipped off due to lack of quality showings. Turned into a more defensive player and got back into the game. Much due to the fact that Barry alongside him is one of the best midfielders in Engand at the moment. b6bloke
Barry by a mile. Can do everything Petrov can do and a whole lot more besides. Can do yes but doesn't in my opinion, well not this season anyway
Grant(aka_eddy)
I think the answer is in the partnerships. I think that Reo-Coker & Petrov offers more than any other combination. In a 4-4-2 that is. Barry is probably the best player out of the 3, but isn't quite athletic enough to be the holding player or the box to box player. He doesnt score enough from open play or play enough killer balls to be an out and out attacking player. As a player Barry really confuses me, I honestly am stumped as to how to get the very best from him. Very good in several positions but specialist in none. I dont want rid at all, but i also dream of a replacement without this headache.
Turamber
It may be a trifle trite, but I would say the player I prefer is the one who wants to be at the Villa.

Grant(aka_eddy)
Ok, he has managed one tackle. Makes him a decent defensive midfielder that lmao Well you did ask... No he can't. In fact tell me a single tackle he has made this entire season. What was the point of asking for an example of a single tackle if you were just going to give that kind of response? As Barry is playing as a midfielder in the Premier League it probably means that fans will be able to give you far more than a single example, probably scores of examples so i think you're setting yourself up for a fall in going down that route. I agree Petrov is the better tackler and i think Reo-Coker is a step up from this, a significant one too. He is probably amongst the very best in the league at going and winning the ball from the opposition. Barry is classiest in his simple mopping up and distribution, he's at his best when the stars are performing and he does the simple things well and gives them the easy passes and possession they want. Which is why he looks good for England, he's far from being the star of the show and just keeps things ticking over.

Wuo
Maybe the point was that making a single tackle or few tackles indiciates he is shit at tackling, because he IS shit at tackling. He is a good passer of the ball, but totally shit at tackling and anyone saying otherwise is wrong. You might have a different opinion, but then you simply don't know what you are talking about. Barry is capable of passing the ball, he has vision, decent on the ball, but he has no aggression or tackling ability. Which is why he would NEVER work as a defensive midfielder in the premier league. And that's also why he is more suited for a 3 man midfield where he don't have to attack or defend, but can pick out passes and dictate the play. Petrov is a better defensive midfielder then Barry and that is by some distance.

JoeFoSho
Petrov makes more tackles and commits far less fouls. Barry's passing doesn't make up for the inability to tackle effectively and lack of forward runs. On his day against the right opponent he looks world class but apart from that I'd have Petrov no questions asked.

That makes no sense when you specifically asked for a single example. He is a good passer of the ball, but totally shit at tackling and anyone saying otherwise is wrong. You might have a different opinion, but then you simply don't know what you are talking about. That made my night, cheers fella. And that's also why he is more suited for a 3 man midfield where he don't have to attack or defend, but can pick out passes and dictate the play. Though I dont know what i'm talking about...so if i'm wrong, as you kindly pointed out, and i agreed with you then surely that make you wrong too... So the only conclusion I can come to is that Barry must be brilliant at tackling.

jjlobban89
It seems Wuo is the only one putting an argument for Petrov being better so how come the poll is so close? People voting with their hearts over their heads? Either way for me Barry is the far better player. Petrov is even slower than Barry and cannot pass or read the game as well. Barry doesn't really need to make sliding challenges in that position because he reads the game so well, effortlessly sweeps up.
Wuo
Yet if you fail to see the difference between the premier league and international football its not much here to debate. Sorry, is there no tackling in international football? Sorry, if you can't see the difference between the pace and style of the PL and international football it's not much I can do. There is a reason why some players are shit at club levels, yet excell in international football. It's also a bit different playing defensive midfield for a Villa side facing spurs, united and chelsea, compared to playing the passing game for an England side, who is the epitomy of no bottle, against sides like Slovakia.
