He patiently explained.

They were out of stock due to popular demand?

Why is she looking for a DVD in a book shop anyway?

I mean it's a bit early for it to have came out already plus it'll be on Sky Premiere soon enough, job done.

Unless she ain't got the movie channels.

Novelisations of films are the most depressing things on Earth. I had a novelisation of 'The Phantom Menace' as a kid, and it was dismal.

Of course it was, the film itself is one of the most dismal excuses for a movie I've ever had the misfortune to watch.

Is there any Director who has such a constant high quality body of work as QT?

I don't think his work is consistently high quality. The first three films are all great, then he drops off considerably and nothing since comes close to those early films.

Definitely this.

Martin Scorsese is the greatest director of all time.

Has he ever made a stinker?!

Even in his old age now he is still making films better then any of today's directors.

His recent works of the departed, Hugo, shutter island and wolf of wall street (haven't seen it but has rave reviews) although not his best is an incredible resume of films.

Along with taxi driver, mean streets, after hours, colour of money, goodfellas, casino, raging bull. Genius.

Watched A Good Day to Die Hard - wish i hadn't! Gaping plot holes, most notably:

how did they get from Moscow to Chernobyl in a stolen car full of Chechen guns in seemingly no time when in reality it would have taken 12 hours and crossing an international border. Not to mention the lack of security at Chernobyl

Oh yes, shocker of a film.

47 ronin

not as bad as some of the reviews are making out, it is style over substance though with some horrible acting and script, the 3D was half decent

couldnt help but feel it would have been better if miike had given it the same treatment as 13 assassins instead of the half breed witch spin they put on the story

Not to mention having a big role in Boardwalk Empire one of the greatest TV shows of all time

If I was locked in a room, with no other means of entertainment for a whole day apart from a TV with no aerial, a DVD player and a copy of 47 Ronin, I still wouldn't watch it.

Id probably give it a go!

shhh don't you know it's a remake, it's so crappy, wholesale copying of the original HK film and therefore utterly dismal.*

*not my actual opinion

Double bill last night.

Paths of Glory with Kirk Douglas which is just fantastic. So well done and some great shots and war atmosphere of the trenches created.

Taken - very different but also really enjoyed it. I do like Liam Neeson. A clinically efficient film that didn't do any more than it needed to. If only more action/thriller films were more disciplined.

Where has this film been all my life? Absolutely magical. There's black comedy, and there's this which is more blackhole than merely black. A must see.

And for those that have seen both, is Life Through Wartime worth seeing as well?

It's much better than Infernal Affairs which is in itself a very solid movie. It perfects it to the point that if it wasn't a remake and wasn't carrying the stigma that comes attached to that it would be considered a masterpiece and an all time great IMO.
