theboyangel Posted July 18 Share Posted July 18 Caught a couple of decent films on my flight yesterday that I hadn’t got around to watching previously. The Holdovers - very very good indeed. American Fiction - very cleverly done I also watched some awful stuff too Kong x Godzilla (lasted 25 mins!) Drive-Away Dolls - worst thing ever to come from a Cohen brother. Designer1 Posted July 18 VT Supporter Share Posted July 18 I've been watching some of my favourites with my youngest recently (they're a huge movie fan but have some fairly large gaps in their watch list due to age) and there's nothing better than getting a positive reaction from a recommendation. Tonight's movie is for me Jack Nicholsons best role in Polanskis Chinatown. It's a timeless classic Noir with a dark undertone and beautifully written characters. I can still watch Alien 1, 2 and 3 when on TV but not really fussed with anything else. Touched on a few pages back, but a stripped-back genre effort could be a shot-in-the-arm to the series (akin to Prey and Predator), and I'd largely trust Álvarez to deliver on such a remit. Nothing fancy and lean into the body horror, all the noise coming out about practical effects/minimal green-screening sounds promising too. My original worry was that it had Scott's "blessing" (see previous rants about him shit-canning Blomkamp's concept so he could fart out whatever the **** Prometheus and Covenant were meant to be) but seemingly no more involvement beyond that so I'm optimistic.
