Stevo985 Posted April 8, 2010 VT Supporter Share Posted April 8, 2010 Meh, each to their own. I think everyone has a film that everyone else thinks is fantastic but you, for whatever reason, just don't get. I think Godfather II is mine. Maybe I'll give it another go at some point. Designer1 Posted April 8, 2010 VT Supporter Share Posted April 8, 2010 By the way, has anyone else bothered to watch 'Mesrine' (part one and two) yet? I am a big fan. Yes mate, saw both parts last year (think I mentioned it at the time in this thread) and they were superb, Vincent Cassel really impressed me. Yes mate, saw both parts last year (think I mentioned it at the time in this thread) and they were superb, Vincent Cassel really impressed me. Ditto. Got both through lovefilm and watched them back to back on a Sunday afternoon. Very entertaining, thought provoking and occassionally very funny. I think i mentioned it earlier but there is a film called the Baadher Meinhoff Complex and its subject matter is referenced in the 2nd Mesrine film. It isnt too important but i would watch that first, mostly because its an excellent film but also as it gives a context to the direction the character istrying to move in and the political mood of the time. That said, i didnt know anything about the subject before, whereas others may not be so ignorant.
Grant(aka_eddy)
Just realised it sounds as if you've already watched them Briggaman. So that advice is for anyone who hasnt already.

Also in agreement with the Baader Mienhoff Complex - one of the most compelling films I've seen in ages. Might dig it out again this weekend. And to add a recommendation: Been in the to-do pile for months now and I enjoyed it an awful lot more than I was expecting. Bit ham-fisted in parts but thoroughly enjoyable nevertheless. villa4europe
Think I have mentioned this before, anyway 'Once Upon a Time in America' is a very good film. By the way, has anyone else bothered to watch 'Mesrine' (part one and two) yet? I am a big fan. IMO once upon a time is good but soooo long i liked mesrine, cassel is brilliant in it, sure i commented on it earlier on in the thread, didnt enjoy it as much a i thought i would some of it felt a bit rushed (the relationship with his parents etc) but that would kill the film completely, would have liked a good documentary in the extras, some of the really far fetched bits are more or less true from what ive read
choffer Posted April 9, 2010 VT Supporter Share Posted April 9, 2010 Excellent. A few reviews here One of my favourite films of last year (page 28 of this thread). Seems like the director took a whole lot of liberties with the editing process though if you check out the Twin Galaxies forum. Great movie though. It's sort of like the abortion issue. :winkold:

Xann
Try this for a premise... Based on the internet novel MULTI-CELL GIRL, Lee Je-Yong's DASEPO NAUGHTY GIRLS is set in No-Use High School, an academy has a somewhat unorthodoxy view to learning and specialises in sexual behaviour. Sexual ambiguity is rife among the school's students and teachers; with many of them departing the campus having contracted sexually-transmitted diseases and it presidents indulge their tastes for sadomasochism. However, some of the students struggle to conform to the curriculum: 'Poor Girl' is one such student, earning money for her family by prostituting herself with sleazy old men. She's drawn to Anthony, a spoilt rich kid from Switzerland but he's confused about his sexuality and harbours a desire for the brother of the school's sole virgin. It's a 15, how's that then? (ok, yes, probably shit) Anyone seen it? It sounds totally bonkers.

Xann
It's Korean that one, but I know what you're driving at. The Japanese do seem to like watching their cities getting destroyed. I've lost count of how many times Tokyo has been razed.
