Special mention for Ryan Gosling who must be one of the most versatile actors of his generation. Yeah, I enjoyed it a lot.

theunderstudy
On an Amazon Prime rampage recently. Watched Casino the other night - always really watchable. Then last night In The Heat of the Night - Sidney Poitier at his best. And tonight's film - Paths of Glory
tonyh29
Ok I’ll say what nobody else wants to say for fear of being kicked out the cool gang Oppenheimer was ok but a bit dull , they focused on the wrong story imo … the race to the bomb would have been the more interesting story rather than focusing on Strauss and “weak “ women whose role seems to be to worship him… and the story just sorta jumps about here there and everywhere.. l doubt it’s a film you’d ever sit down and watch again and a missed opportunity.

I said exactly that. I thought it was well made and well acted, but I have absolutely no desire for a rewatch. Nolan is a very hit and miss Director for me.

mjmooney Posted August 6, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted August 6, 2023 Men (Alex Garland). Well done, if you like that sort of thing (Freudian horror, I guess). Terrific performances from the ubiquitous Jessie Buckley and (especially) Rory Kinnear.

Great soundtrack by Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury too.

Good to see Feynman's bongos. Cheeky words removed showed 25 minutes of ads and trailers before a three hour film and they wonder why cinemas are closing down. 25 minutes is pretty short to be honest. I had to plan my double header on friday as I had to be done in time to collect my lad from nursery. So I researched how long the trailers and ads are at Cineworld. 30-45 minutes was the conclusion. I went to Everyman instead. 25 minutes (to be honest I don't really mind, I love seeing the trailers)

I sort of agree. I wouldn't rush to watch it again, and the jumping around did sometimes feel a bit gratuitous, but that's Nolan for you. After Tenet the story felt like Spot the Dog in comparison (in terms of simplicity) I don't think it was dull though. I thought for a movie that was 3 hours of people talking it was gripping. I needed a piss halfway through and it took me about half an hour before I dared go because I didn't want to miss anything
CVByrne
Really enjoyed Oppenheimer. Glad movies like this are still getting made - albeit only because of Nolan.
Stevo985 Posted August 7, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted August 7, 2023 I'm a big Nolan fan but I really thought he'd disappeared up his own arse with Tenet. So unnecessarily complicated and convoluted. So I was happy to see a return to form with this one and for him to have reigned in the complexity a bit

I held off and off as long as I could , and then found out after the film I managed to pick the big reveal on who was leaking info to the Russians as my moment to go !!

Chindie Posted August 13, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted August 13, 2023 Watched Sin City last night for the first time in years. Criminally underappreciated. Hyper overblown, hyper stylised, it's silly but it's supposed to be. And still looks incredible. It's a shame Frank Miller went nuts.

Went to see Oppenheimer today. I really enjoyed it more so for the acting and the last hour or so. However I kind of get why it’s so long with the build up before hand. However, for me it’s not one of his best. Interstellar and the Prestige are my favourites along with Dark Knight and Memento.
tonyh29
Saw Meg 2 for some harmless fun. it’s saying something that a film with a talking tree and a gun totting raccoon is more believable than a shark film based on planet earth… harmless fun indeed but stupid stupid stupid plot
