choffer Posted November 20, 2021 VT Supporter Share Posted November 20, 2021 Finally got round to Bond last night. Pish. I’m nostalgically a fan of the franchise but with one notable exception, the recent DC episodes have felt more about the set pieces than the story. I will probably have forgotten how much I disliked it by the time the next one comes out and get back on the merry go round again though.
useless
Letter From an Unknown Woman - I liked this a great deal, great cinematography, set designs, performances from the cast, musical accompaniment, and sound design in general.

Feels like everything about Bond since Casino Royale has actually been about Craig instead, a self indulgent arc that has produced bang average tosh (Skyfall had its moments). Having someone of the calibre of Christophe Waltz and then under playing him so as to not over shadow Craig is criminal. I do fear that the new world will next produce an even worse experience for those that remember the enjoyable escapism that was 007 of old.

Fontaine is, as in most of her performances, superb, a fine actress with great screen presence. Great film

Very good movie imo and Portman is great. I’ve had this on the shelf for about five years. No idea why I’d never got round to it but I’ve just watched it now. I always expected I’d love it (mostly due to Aronofsky’s involvement) but it really is beautiful. Will be watching it again soon.
Mozzavfc
Watched Shang Chi tonight, and thought it was excellent Not your 'normal' marvel film, more like a Kung Fu black panther. Action scenes are slick, and good humour when needed
Designer1 Posted November 21, 2021 VT Supporter Share Posted November 21, 2021 (edited) Just back from watching this: I have zero interest in tennis, and I'm not a big fan of Will Smith however after reading all the positive reviews I thought I'd make the trip to see it. Really glad I did, it's a very good movie indeed. Best performance I've ever seen from W.Smith and a really interesting story. useless
Certified Copy - Seems like quite a straight Story at first but then things happen to suggest that something else is going and make you question what you're seeing.
Phil Silvers
Bruised 2020 Directed by and staring Halle Berry as a MMA fighter living a tough existence in a shitty world. Quite enjoyed it, decent fight scenes and for them that know, she fights Valentina Shevchenko.

It was more like the kind of Bond film I like with the Aston Martin having some gizmos, a bit in the Caribbean and Ana de Armas being hot as fire. I've generally felt Daniel Craig has been a better Bond than the films he has been in, some of which have been shit. Good luck to whoever follows it though. I guess you have to think of the Craig films as their own little franchise. Didn't think much of the villain. 7/10, probably go down to 6/10 or lower on a rewatch. Bizzzle
Watched Red Notice at the weekend and it was dumb but fun. I get why people wouldn't like it but I really liked it myself 7/10. Also watched Last Night in Soho which I heard good things about but I was kinda disappointed although I didn't think it was a bad film 6.5/

Popular Post jackbauer24
Don't normally post in here but last two films I've watched at the cinema are polar opposites of each other in terms of my extreme reaction to them. Bond. Sorry, 'Craig' as it might as well be called. Self-indulgent destruction of a legacy. That isn't Bond at all. Left cinema absolute fuming at the film, the actor and the disregard for the past and future of the character and the franchise. Was angry for days. Ghostbusters; Afterlife. After Bond I was nervous but WOW. A love letter to the first film and just done so so well. Didn't overdo the kid angle, great nods to the past, excellent story and sentimental to just the right level. I really fail to see how it could have been better. I left buzzing and still am! In summary; Bond Bad, Ghostbuster Good!!

Five seconds later in the movie he says"Do you know who I am? I was in Game Of Thrones"!!

HanoiVillan
Don't we now know they were all covered in feathers? And isn't it set nowadays? If so, why is the cinema showing Flash Gordon and American Graffiti? Why did I watch that?

Designer1 Posted November 24, 2021 VT Supporter Share Posted November 24, 2021 Really enjoyable stuff. Even though there's plenty of fan service, it's a good story in its own right.
