Pelle
Bond is the best agent ever, period! I like Bourne, though. 1
Popular Post Chindie Posted August 22, 2018 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted August 22, 2018 Bourne and Bond are different things (although the former influenced the latter when they 'rebooted' it). Bourne was always more grounded, contained and understated. Bond has always had at least a touch of the absurd. Bourne is fundamentally about rogue agencies and secret programs. Bond generally about megolomanical organisations and people. They both have their place. Bourne did unfortunately popularise the method of shooting action scenes by giving the camera to something with Parkinson's, and Bond has been around for so long the series has as many low points as high (and it's attempts at chasing cinema trends in recent times are dreadful). But both have their merits. Bond needs another Casino Royale moment. That film revitalised the series from it's lowest ebb, and they immediately squandered it. Skyfall was an odd one off that is basically a tribute to the series at any cost kinda thing, with all the dumb moments that entails, but then Spectre was a ham fisted attempt to make a Moore era style film that also tied together the Craig films (because continuity and universes are in, folks), with a director who you could tell didn't really want to do it, and a lead thinking about the cheque with every fibre of his being, and it turned out to be the mess you'd expect. They need to bin Craig. He doesn't want to do it anymore, he's not that great of a Bond, and he's old. Then decide whether they want to stick to the old school Bond style, which effectively says **** continuity, or whether they want a series. Then write things appropriately - you want a series get an overarching plot sorted and work to it. Don't care about a series? Then don't shoe horn one in afterwards. Then just tick the Bond boxes. They'd probably benefit from doing something that harks back to the old school of the character and committing to it - part of the issue with Spectre is the weird Moore era stuff just doesn't jive with Craig's Bond. 7
AVFCDAN
Going back to Mendes would be a massive mistake. Needs freshening up again, bin Craig now as well.
sharkyvilla
After I finished GoldenEye last night I saw they had Die Another Day on ITV4, now that is an absolute scissors abortion of a film. It's almost as low as Batman got in that film with Arnie as the big blue frozen fella. I quite like Daniel Craig but he's been better than the films he's been in. Idris Elba would make a great Bond, he looks cool and looks like he could kick the shit out of you.
TheMelvillan
Always thought Daniel Craig looked like he was doing a duck face instagram pose when he played Bond. Never really cared for it

It was perfect imo. One of the best horrors of the last decade for me.

villakram
Speaking of Bond, imho The Living Daylights and License to Kill are criminally underrated in relation to some of the rubbish produced in the Bond universe.

Brumerican
I'm firmly in the Roger camp. I believe no one could, sort of, wear a safari suit with the same degree of casuality.

Chindie Posted August 24, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted August 24, 2018 I don't see Hardy as Bond. He's a great actor, but I don't think he's right for it. I don't think he fits Bond's suave upper class thug style. Hardy tends to do better with more working class, brawler brute roles when he's got his action hat on. I'm not the biggest fan of Craig but he can do that dual role of posh educated guy who murders for a living (even if he plays the posh bit as someone who resents it). I also can't see Hardy being too keen to sign up for an ongoing series, especially one that dominates like Bond does. Up to now his appearances in franchise films are one and done affairs (which Venom will likely be too). Elba is too old now. I also just don't see them making the jump yet. Eventually it will, but not yet. A younger Elba might have been a decent shout if the producers had the balls for it. Hiddleston would be a good bet. He can get into a new franchise, if he wants, he can do the upper class and suave thing in his sleep and he can handle action. He'd fit very well if they fancied paring it back and doing a kind of back to basics, essence of Bond style reboot. On the downside, he might be a bit too lanky, as whilst he's tall he's not got much bulk (unlike say Connery, who was tall and **** built), and he's possibly too associated with Loki. Cavill would be a good call. He's not a great actor but he has the Bond boxes ticked. And he was in the running when Craig got the nod. Unfortunately, he's also Superman. They aren't having Bond be someone involved in another franchise. Luke Evans is an outside shout as well. Decent actor, ticks the boxes, no franchise hanging over him, still a fairly new face to Hollywood (no career baggage).
villa4europe
Hardy would have been a good older eggsy in the kingsman, agree bond isnt really his thing Hiddleston would need to bulk up imo got the chops but not the physique Seen riz ahmed suggested which would be interesting but hes too small Agree about elba being too old
