I watched The Ritual last night and it was surprisingly good.

Think 2 parts Blair Witch, one part The Witch with a bit of Dog Soldiers thrown in.

It isn't as good as any of those but borrows bits from all and does a good job, it looks great, sounds great and is genuinely tense at times.

7.5/10

I've still never seen Blair Witch  (other then Cherie of course )

one of these days I'll stumble across it and give it a watch

You kind of had to see it at the time to be fair, it was a combination of being one of the first found footage movies and using very early viral internet marketing that gave people a slight doubt over whether it was real or not. Certainly creeped me out at the time as a 14-15 year old.

Logan Lucky - surprisingly good fun. Funny, smart and just entertaining throughout.

Thought it was great (even had a none pouting Daniel Craig on good form!)

good to see a low-tech heist film that didn’t rely on fancy gizmos to get the job done.

I really liked the original Blair Witch. Not sure whether it would stand the test of time now...

Phantom Thread - by the end I was able to say I enjoyed it as a whole, but earlier it was just DDL and the score which was keeping my attention at times. Some very funny jokes at the eccentric quirks of the DDL's character, though the female lead Alma, was bordering on insufferably annoying. Not sure if it was the fault of the character or actor. Still, a PTA film I've actually enjoyed.

Going to see a showing of Boogie Nights at an indie cinema tomorrow, so hopefully I can make it two

Just watched rise of the foot-solider. I thought it was alright. Worth watching.

Pretty brutal how they killed them.

One of the most awful, repugnant and downright nasty movies ever made.

Not a single redeeming feature on the whole thing.

Utterly awful shit.

But you still watched it all? ;)

Well yeah. How else could I slag it off so reliably :D

As an aside I spoke to the director after he read my review on Twitter and to be fair he seemed a decent bloke.

That ending though. Terrifying.

It was brilliant at the time, It wouldn't have the same impact if you watched it for the first time now, but it would still be a good watch imo.

BWP and Cloverfield are the best examples of 'found footage' IMO.

Cannibal Holocaust - the original and best. Rec and The Poughkeepsie Tapes are good too, in fact there's segments from the V/H/S series which are excellent as well.

Megan is Missing isn't really one I would recommend, it's not a great movie, but holy shit does it stay with you. Utterly harrowing.

I’ve never even heard of it.

But after a google it looks like the kind of movie @Xela would watch.

So I’m out.
