Just watched "the wolf of wall street". Not sure what all the hype was about. Just typical  Scorsese, a pornographic version of Casino or Goodfellas. Similar to bolier room from 2000, maybe based on the same people. 7/10

Southpaw.

Might be the boxingiest boxing movie that boxed the box office. Nothing original in it, every cliché you could want, you know exactly every story beat before you set for in the cinema, but it's rather enjoyable. Gyllenhaal is pretty damn good in a role a little more physical than he's used to, and Forrest Whitaker is good too. Nothing special but if you like a good boxing movie you'll find things to enjoy here.

The Taking of Deborah Logan.

Decent horror film that tries something different with its story basing it around a film crew constructing a documentary about a woman as she falls deeper into her alzheimers struggle.

It holds it's own for the most part but loses it's way a little towards the end as it strays from its own well worked developing story and starts to fall victim for a couple of stock horror film tropes but it comes back round for the finale.

Some creepy scenes and some that made me wince a little.

Felt very much in the same vein as Borderlands which also had a similar feel and pace.

Great performance by Jill Larson in the lead too.

7.5/10

Yep, watched this earlier this week and pretty much summed up my feelings for it.

Despite it being entirely predictable, it's still a movie I really enjoyed watching and Gyllenhaal was brilliant. I couldn't help thinking at certain times just how different he is in this compared to Nightcrawler. Not just how he looks physically, but his mannerisms, his voice and other stuff.

I think he's brilliant. Mancrush confirmed.

Oh, I heard somewhere that Eminem was considered for the role in Southpaw. That would have been interesting, but I think they made the right choice.

Just heard about Roddy Piper. Makes me want to watch "Hell comes to Frogtown" and then "They Live", which in turn made me want to come in here and give them a shout out. He came here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. If my memory serves me correctly he was all out of bubblegum.

State of Grace.

Rewatched this old favourite of mine tonight. Haven't seen it in a long time but I still remembered a lot scenes. Sean Penn and Gary Oldman playing irish mobsters in New York. Also includes Robin wright and Ed Harris. Highly recommended if you haven't seen it.

Inside Out.

A children's film that isn't really for kids.

You know the recent trend for kids movies to have jokes that are specifically for the adults watching? Inside Out takes that idea, and decides that all the 'ideas' in the movie are for the adults, and leaves the kids with the simplistic ideas on top.

The plot and storyline are nothing special, but serve as a skeleton for Pixar to hang ideas and concepts about emotion, childhood, growing up and developing as a person off of, almost all of which will be lost on its main audience.

Ultimately not as good as everyone suggests it is, it is a 'nice' movie with moments to pull the heart strings and some good gags, but I can see some people not being satisfied by it due to the ludicrous simplicity of its main plot.

The short beforehand, Lava, is so arseclenchingly twee that I'd almost recommend arriving late or taking a well timed shit lest you risk cringing so hard that your spine loops around up your rectum and have to watch the rest of the movie from between your buttocks. Horrendous.

I loved inside out and lava.

My wife loved it. My 3 year old daughter didn't, and left half hour before the end. As the chindster says, it's possibly more for adults than young kids.

Yeah me too, particularly Lava (Im a sucka for hawaiian tunes).

My 3 year old got kinda bored of the movie about half way through (probably a bit depressing for a little one), but I really enjoyed it.

Watched a couple of films over the weekend.

Jurassic World. As expected, it was absolutely awful. 2/10.

Also watched the new Mad Max which shocked me a bit. When I initially saw the trailer I thought it looked awful. Then it seemed to get global rave reviews so I was expecting it to be half decent, but it really wasnt, again utter rubbish. 2/10.
