Stevo985 Posted May 1, 2015 VT Supporter Share Posted May 1, 2015 (edited) Just watched The Babadook. It was okay, nothing special. The woman and the boy were great, but the story was pretty meh. I thought the story in the babadook was incredible. I've never seen depression explored that way in a film. Edited May 1, 2015 by Stevo985
kurtsimonw
i think mad max looks the dogs bollocks, pure eye porn, tempted to go watch it in imax I thought the IMAX trailer was awful. It looked like Transformers in a desert. But having seen the more recent trailer, it does look like there's a lot more substance in there as well so I am very tempted by IMAX. Because it never truly goes away. Edited for spoiler tags since some might not have seen it. Edited May 1, 2015 by kurtsimonw

She learnt to deal with her grief rather than bottle it up and ignore it and therefore let it overwhelm her. The whole point was that she revisits her grief and memories every now and then and that's how she keeps it under control

Xela
Watched this (again) last night. One word - epic It was one of the first '18' films I watched at the cinema - remember at the time thinking it was outstanding and 20 years later, I still think the same.

VillaForever1970
All these people saying Mad Max looks awful, you've either never seen the first or are smoking crack; will be awesome. This isn't Michael Bay nonsense.
Zatman
well Mad Max 1 is pretty overrated though
CarewsEyebrowDesigner
I like both the first and second Mad Max films, but I've no intention of seeing the latest. The originals' appeal was their grittiness and general aesthetic, which made it all 'believable'. The Hardy film looks CGI heavy and, like so many modern films, that hinders believability more than anything. For some that isn't an issue. For me it is: I can't enjoy a film if I'm made aware of the fact I'm watching a film too often.

Rodders
16 months after first reading about it, and looking forward to it, via then watching the director's other films in the mean time, missing two provisional cinema appointments in July then in October, I reserved it from the library, last week I finally managed to pick it up: Boyhood. I'll be honest was fairly well pre-disposed to liking this from the moment it started, and not disappointed - captures the nature of growing up and family dynamics so well - as much parenthood and sibling life as well etc. Feel like it's the film that will grow on me more so over the next day or so, not quite the same impact that the Before Films had, but still loved it. Also saw Age of Ultron last night - rookie mistake - saturday evening film slot at a new cinema encouraging audiences with cheap tickets - far too many teenage thunder prats being noisy dicks (well beyond the general level I can tolerate for an action comic book film ), but still - good fun in the main I think - I'm not into the arcs to know too much about what was going on, but would have liked to have seen more of the Black Widow - Hulk relationship was the most engaging part of the film, but it ticked the Joss Whedon boxes of measured wit, style and adventure. Not as fun as the first I don't think, but maybe that's the lack of freshness. One thing that did strike me whilst walking out was a sudden sense of fatigue just imagining all the other films of this genre still to watch. The SO is a massive fan and is encouraging me ( and I no doubt will ) to watch the Captain America ones, and I do enjoy them, but just the wealth of potential characters or films with each ones, just became more evident in my mind. Couldnt be more wrong, they've done all the stunts in this and just made explosions look better etc with CG, as shown by this.. Geroge Miller when making the Mad Max films has always done proper stunt work, this one is no different.
