theboyangel
The Dad's Army cast is **** brilliant. Yeah but... "The film will be directed by Oliver Parker, who made Johnny English Reborn, St Trinian's and Othello starring Sir Kenneth Branagh. The script will be written by Hamish McColl, who wrote Johnny English Reborn and Mr Bean's Holiday." From the BBC article. Shame. Oh I don't think for one second it will be anything special, and i'm not a big fan of the original series (it's certainly no Porridge or Fawlty Towers) But that cast is fantastic, and personally I could watch Toby Jones read a phone directory as I find him just superb. You should try and catch Detectorists on BBC4 on Thursday nights then (if you haven't already!) - extremely kooky comedy about metal detector enthusiasts!! Episode 2 is on tonight, with the first available on iPlayer.
Designer1 Posted October 9, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted October 9, 2014 Off to see Gone Girl in a bit and expecting the usual Fincher brilliance. It's an interesting one for me as I really don't rate Rosamund Pike at all, I think she's a very poor actress. However, from what my mate has told me my opinion is about to be changed. hogso
Bridesmaid director guy is directing Ghostbusters 3 and will be co-writing it with the writer of parks & recreation. He tweeted 'it will star hilarious women'. Could be the all female ghostbusting crew rumours are true.

I like to keep an open mind but I'm seeing staff from Bridesmaids and The Heat are doing a new Ghostbusters with 'hilarious women'. As soon as I see the names Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy are attached then I'll laugh at anyone trying to defend it.

Popular Post Designer1 Posted October 9, 2014 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted October 9, 2014 Off to see Gone Girl in a bit and expecting the usual Fincher brilliance. It's an interesting one for me as I really don't rate Rosamund Pike at all, I think she's a very poor actress. However, from what my mate has told me my opinion is about to be changed. OK, so just watched Gone Girl. It's a very, very impressive movie. It has a really tight narrative, containing a labyrinthine plot that throws your perceptions around at an alarming rate, yet at the same time never feels convoluted. At 2 1/2 hours the pace never lagged once and I was pretty much transfixed to the screen. A lot of this is of course down to the acting and it has a great cast all round, with Affleck again showing that he does have a some depth and gravitas. However, it's Rosamund Pike that completely steals the show. Now as you can see by my previous post I didn't have much time for her in anything else but in this she is utterly and completely fantastic. One of the most intense and superbly nuanced performances i've seen for a while. Can't go into too many specifics without spoilers, but I genuinely didn't know she had it in her and she deserves every single plaudit she gets. The direction is as expected excellent from Fincher, who ditches many of his more obvious visual flourishes in favour of a solid storytelling style. I only have a couple of quibbles really - One is the portrayal of the media which I found so cartoonish that it bordered on parody and the other concerns a few scenes with NP Harris, but again it's difficult to explain with spoiling anything. So, overall rather excellent.
