BOF Posted October 20, 2010 Moderator Share Posted October 20, 2010 I think a lot of people mis-understood it when it initially came out, and it certainly wasn't helped by its bizzare marketing campaign which centred around the Cruise and Kidman getting their kit off. So what happened was people flocked to the movie like horny teenagers to a porno, hoping for a few hours of high-class sexy time and feeling awfully smutty about it all. Then when it ended and nothing of the sort happened, they missed the entire point of the movie. Instead of watching what was there, they were anticipating what was never going to happen. It also wasn't helped by being incredibly subtle, and our pre-disposition to listen rather than see. It is very, very good though now that i've watched it again and understood it a bit better, but like 2001 and the Shining it'll take a few more watches to get all the subtext and not just the over-all idea. As I said, I think it's getting a lot more love now than it did back then.Kidman gets her kit off? Ooh must check it out. Sounds good.

theboyangel
Watched two very different films over the weekend The Brothers Bloom - with Adrian Brody, Mark Ruffalo and Rachel Weisz - very kooky con-man (con-brothers) story well acted with Weisz in particular looking mighty fine! Very light hearted and easy to watch with the other half! Brooklyn's Finest - downbeat American cop drama with Richard Gere, Ethan Hawke and Don Cheadle (and a cameo from Wesley Snipes!!!) Both pretty decent
MrWeedMcGrass
Watched Last king of Scotland while completely **** yesterday. Whitaker's portrayal of Amin was amazing in my stoned perception. 9/10.

Pelle
Saw the new Robin Hood with Russel Crowe this Saturday. Thought it was brilliant. Very different to the former RH films. A bit darker and more serious. I liked it.

sonic_bouma
Briggaman... Hidden is one of my favourtite films...... a real slow burner and then a scene half way through which just punches you right in the face out of nowhere...you'll probably know which one i mean....plus an ending that you can talk about for days afterwards... im not a huge Haneke fan.....but Hidden is the balls.... and LEBANON isn't a bad film either! just finished watching that
