Skruff
I think for people who's interested in film as a form of art these movies high value. Both in a artistic and cinematographic way. What outtakes, cuts, music, lightning etc etc do they use to create a reaction or feeling in the audience. Is there any groundbreaking methods? Movies are made not only as entertainment but also as a way of criticizing society. And some directors go way to far in order to do so, but at the same time it's extremely effective. Films that makes you reflect and think, is important. But for me movies are about entertainment i form of drama, thrillers comedy and action. That doesn't mean it hurts to see a "high culture"(best word I could come up with) movie every now and then. As for Human Centipede: It's not disturbing at all. It's a terrible terrible C-grade horror movie. And it's not in any way scary nor disgusting. It's just horrible action and a horrible story-line with the worst bond-like villain you'll ever see. I've seen it, and it made me laugh quite a bit. The south park take on it was far worse then the movie itself. Scream and I know what you did last summer is more offensive. hogso
Just the description of that Salo film put me of my dinners for like a century, no way I could watch it. It's released on Criterion as well who put out a lot of good movies. The guy who made it was murdered shortly after as well. Assassinated, some would say. Here is a rather wonderful song by Coil on the subject http://youtu.be/j6_wEJV_eoY As it happens, I quite like Salo. The BFI blu ray I have of it I would recommend to mostly anyone, it looks incredible, and features a bunch of documentarys about the movie and director that help with the (as pointed out above) 'why'. As far as Serbian Film is concerned - it's actually quite a well made flick, looks alright, actors are ok, the effects are good, and the story is easy enough to follow. I watched it without knowing what the twist was, and it was one of the most shocking I have ever seen. The allegory is pretty well documented now I think? And is dished up literally - babies being raped as soon as they are born, etc. I would agree it goes too far, though, and any political message is lost in how much of a despicable spectacle the film becomes. What is suggested is often worse than seeing the act, an idea used to great effect in many films. Clearly the director didn't agree with that, and actually, he proved that isn't always the case. Designer1 Posted January 5, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted January 5, 2014 I thought Salo was fine, it had a certain amount of integrity and intelligence and some artistic merit. Serbian Movie on the other hand, was vile imo, and no amount of heavy handed symbolism can change my opinion on that. Same goes for the August Underground movies. Although to be fair, they don't even pretend to have a message.

Yeh, just read it's meant to be based on a book by Marquis De Sade who's name the word sadism comes from (T think?) so that gives people an idea, The whole film has been posted on Youtube by several users, if anybody wants to try it, you have to sign in, of course. chrisp65
right, I know I'm a little behind the curve on this, but Prometheus…. There is a planet quite far away, we can build a spaceship to get there and put people in deep sleep for the journey. But when we get there we have to fly around looking out of the spaceship window to find alien buildings. Upon arrival, a scouting mission decides not to carry any weapons, goes inside the building and finds dead, fossilised aliens. On finding dead aliens and a recording of them trying to escape ‘something’ they decide to investigate further. But some are a bit scared in the dark with dead aliens around, so they decide to split up. Having accidentally left some people behind, they are advised not to touch anything. The man boss on the main spaceship hears an alarm that means there is an alien life form in the building with the stranded chaps. He radios down to tell them there is something down there, plays his accordion a little, then goes to bed. Later, having wandered around and found heaps of dead exploded aliens, the stranded chaps see some snakey art deco space viper things appear out of the goo. Mistaking them for meerkats the stranded guys attempt to keep them for pets, but get eaten. Meanwhile, one scientist has been deliberately fed alien sperm. That night he gets lucky with a lady scientist who can’t have children. When they go for a look around the alien building he, the male alien sperm scientist gets fantastically ill to the point where his eyes have crawly things in them his skin goes black and his head shape changes. Clearly the others decide he must be taken straight back to the safety of the spaceship. Boss lady in the spaceship decides there is no way this guy can be allowed back on board. So opens the main doors to tell them they can’t come in. Lady scientist who can’t have babies is now preggo with a little alien. But it’s ok, they have an acme robo surgeon on board. She tricks it into removing the alien under gas and air, is stapled back together and starts running around. Critically at this point, this is actually far more plausible than everything else that is going on. Meanwhile a mysterious blob creature has appeared directly outside the spaceship, so they decide to send two crew downstairs to open the main doors to look at it and see if it’s friendly. Turns out it isn’t and it kills some more people. That’s as far as I’ve got, about half way. It’s not the best thought out film I’ve ever seen.
