Yeah it’s a farcical challenge, like what you would show as an over exaggerated example of “what not to do”

Of course, they check the shirt first before making a decision, but are they insinuating that you can throw as punch or attempt a kung fu challenge but as long as the opposition player swerves out of the way, it can never be a red card?

Yes, that has always been the rule. If you play for Man Utd or Liverpool then you can make challenges like this and not get red cards.
