Gutting.

I remember being in the Supporters Bar as a kid with my Manc Uncle at Maine Road in about '86 and the locals all raving about Gary Shaw and offerring their genuine symapthy for his injury curtailing the career of a generational talent.

Far too early. HEITS

This is gut wrenching. I was lucky enough to socialise with Gary on a slightly regular basis about decade ago or so, and he was a good friend of some very good friends of mine. I never watched him play, but I was fond of Gary on a personal level. Warm, friendly and a great sense of humour, and always a pleasure to talk to. Just an utter tragedy to see him go so very much too soon.

I have never considered this forum to be "Social Media". It is a forum created for Villa fans - not to be used for any twaddle, as happens on Twitter etc.

Not a regular in Off Topic, then?  :)

Oh ****, was hoping to read he'd started on the road to recovery.

So sad, both his career and life cut short by bad luck. He was one of the best in his generation easy. Villa legend but had he not got crocked he'd have been remembered as one of England's most talented players of all time.

Such very sad news. Gone way too soon. Thanks for the memories Gary and for the crucial role that you played in winning us the title and the EC. My thoughts are with his family, with the players that played alongside him, with those of us that were lucky enough to have seen him play and with those fans that didn't, but appreciate that we have lost a legend. HEITS!

Aston Villa legend Gary Shaw, 63, in ... tphoto on X: "Gary Shaw (Aston Villa ... ORIGINAL SIGNED GARY Shaw Aston Villa ... Mat Kendrick on Aston Villa's top five ... Phil Williams on Gary Shaw ... Aston Villa FC - Happy birthday to one of our 𝟭𝟵𝟴𝟮... | Facebook ASTON VILLA FC 1982 European Cup Final ... Gary Shaw - Birmingham Live Aston Villa FC - Happy birthday to one of our 𝟭𝟵𝟴𝟮... | Facebook GARY SHAW: IL “BIONDINO” DELL' ASTON VILLA. - La complessità del calcio   Project B6 on X: "Seems like this has got an overall 👍 Be good to get it spread. #avfc" / X

Was looking for some video of him playing the other day and didn't do very well, anyone know of anything out there? His brace in the European Cup would be phenomenal, but anything really...

Simply devastating news.

It's a well worn comments, but the old line about 'never meet your heroes', etc - not him. He was amazing.

For younger fans - he was nearly a year younger and much better than Lineker before the injury. He won the league and European cup, but by 23 his career was devastated.
We should be grateful for what we had, but so very sad for what could have been and what we've now lost.

HEITS 😢

Really sad news and only 63, taken far too young

A very talented and extremely nice guy who was definitely one of our own.

Sadly born at a time when England caps seemed only to be handed out to London players and northern reds! A travesty that he never got a full England cap

So many happy memories of seeing him  play but especially recalling the rapport he built with Peter Withe.

my condolences go out to his family.

RIP Gary Shaw.

HEITS
