If Geertruida does come in I wouldn't be surprised to see Cash leave, but I would be sad to see him go, but at the same time excited by our new signing. It's fine to think players can be upgraded and replaced. I just don't like the way some people talk about our players with such little respect sometimes.

Completely agree

I don't know about his consistency. He had some bad moments today, he had some great moments, he was hung out to dry by teammates a couple of times today. A lot is expected of a RB in Unai Emery's system.

Yeah I like Matty but I feel we really need a more physically imposing and defensively astute full back in that position, he just doesn't quite fit the system, it's been like that since Unai came in. He is a good all round modern full back but is not going to help us shut out the opposition which is what we need as the left back usually has greater freedom and neither of our centre backs are very dominant. I'm surprised we didn't make RB a priority all summer, maybe we have been screwed by being unable to move players on but its been a clear area to improve for over a year, I remember when Ashley Young was playing over Cash at one point, that was 18 months ago.

I like the idea of having a more versatile, physical RB that can also move back to CB when Torres bombs forward like he did today.

But I don’t think Cash should leave as he is another great squad option who can’t be on that much of a wage.

Pau looked like he was playing LB at one point! 😆 Didn’t realise he had that kind of pace either!

He made a run and so I was telling a friend about him and by the end of it he was our furthest forward player in open play

I think that honestly is more an indictment of West Ham's midfield and formation than Pau's skillset and pace.

(Not that I didn't absolutely enjoy it, but deciding that "I'm going to let Pau and Digne go wherever the **** they choose" is quite the defensive strategy.)

I remember that run, and also he was in absolutely no hurry to retreat back. He was quite aware of what West Ham were doing (and not doing).

They improved their counterattack later on.

Winds me up so much.

US as fans are so quick to turn on players and talk about loyalty, yet have no issue throwing good, loyal servants under the bus and totally writing off their contributions to the club.

It's actually pretty sad.

We have certain players where it's just the generic thing to slate them.

Your post is exactly my thinking and sentiment I echoed earlier in another thread even before the game.

He was actually pretty good and on another day var maybe even overturns that.

Chaps - I’m sorry if my opinion annoys you and that you feel the need to label me “sad”. Which is pretty insulting when somebody is purely giving their opinion!

The fact that Cash is no longer good enough for our starting XI is a huge testament to how far we’ve come in the last 18-24 months. He’s gone from being one of our Top 5-6 players to now the weak link in the starting XI. That’s progression.

There’s absolutely no problem with any fan highlighting what they perceive to be a weak link and striving for improvement!

In my opinion, we’re a far better Team with Cash on the bench and somebody like Geertruida in the team.

I was labelling the situation as " sad * not any poster lol.

Context and comprehension is everything.

I guess Matty has put paid to the theory that all fans love a trier and a player who runs around and puts his heart into everything….

Has always worked his ass off for us tbf. Players need psychological qualities (spirit, fight, endeavour) as well as physical/technical ones…

Not really his fault he has limitations but we have to keep progressing. It’s an area of the team that we can improve on.

Not necessarily a player I would like to leave (always battles, works hard at defending and some of his last ditch stuff had helped us out. Also, he ensured we went a further round in Europe… we were useless in that game until he breathed life back into us. Gonna have to be a lot better in CL) but… with all the PSR crap, we can make some decent money off of him if we get a proper offer or two. There’s an opportunity there…

He’s a good lad.

He’s very likable and tries hard but invariably if we give away a pen (whether it’s fair or not) or if the high line fails Cash is more often than not at the centre of it.

He’s fine to have around as a squaddie but Geertruida would be a huge upgrade and would leave the first XI with no blatant weakness that the opposition would immediately hone in on and target. Geertruida is now the critical signing for me over and above any further attacking or specialist CB options.

He was up against their most dangerous player and gave a good account of himself. The penalty was a close call and could have gone either way tbh.

It's difficult to judge him when he's up against it. I like him, never gives up, great throw ins.
