Tom13
20 hours ago, Herman22 said: Did anyone listen to the Rest is Football on Southgate leaving? After the “Gareth was a great lad” nonsense they started to talk about who should the next manager be. This is where it gets interesting from a Villa point of view. According to Micah (the clown) Lampard should’ve got promoted with Derby and did a great job there and then got screwed by Chelsea and they should’ve given him more time. He also said Gerard was brilliant at Rangers. He accidentally forgot to mention his time at Villa. Lineker then said that Gerard deserved more time at Villa. He also said he would be happy with Lampard as the England manager. As an Irish man I find this just baffling. Both Lampard and Gerrard were top players. But both are bang average managers who have been given top jobs based on their playing days. You’d be insane ti put them in charge of the national team. But these guys have so many mates in the media I could see Lampard getting it. Bang average is being extremely generous. At least in Gerrard's case. Southgate had led England to back-to-back Euro finals, as well as a World Cup quarter-final and semi-final, but was unable to end England’s 58-year wait for a major trophy. Now England are on the hunt for a new manager to finally break the curse – and Tottenham boss Postecoglou is set to be on the shortlist. That’s according to The Telegraph, which wrote: “The Tottenham Hotspur head coach has been tracked by the Football Association for years. “FA technical director John McDermott has followed Postecoglou’s career closely from Australia to Japan to Scotland and now into the Premier League and is an admirer of his work.”

Potter at a push, but it’s just one season at Brighton really isn’t it? If they are open to a foreign manager, then I genuinely think they might fancy their chances of getting Guardiola. As a proud Catalan, he has no real love of the Spanish national side, and may see England as his best option for international football, which he has said in the past is something he’d like to have a crack at. Big Ange Mate would be an interesting one. The media like him, and he protects his players well. Is he as good as the PR? Not really, but better record than Southgate. And Klopp obviously would be an interesting choice. Of those, I’d fancy all of Howe, Guardiola, Postecoglou and Klopp to do a better job than Southgate on the pitch and handle the pressure off it. Potter I think would fold and be a bit of a disaster. The press would get in his head and he’d start second guessing the match reports.

Could even happen mid season if you're 5-10 points off top 4. It's a big season for Howe and I don't think he'll still be Newcastle manager in June 2025. Gotta be Europe at least. But Eales isn't one to pull the trigger if there's mitigating circumstances. Howe isn't judged just against results, there's player improvement, style of play etc. We didn't get Europe last season because of an injury crisis the likes of which I've never seen. And to be honest we only missed out by 3pts even with that injury list. The squad just wasn't deep enough to compete in 4 competitions, certainly not without so many of our first team players. Never been a manager, a very low profile, and he's Irish. He'd be eaten alive. IMO.
