So is he coming to B6 to win things or off to the serial close but no cigar centre in North London they specialise at not quite winning in that part of the world, different shirts same flops. “Champions of Europe he’ll never sing that!” UTV!!!

I'm seeing United chat on here so let me just remind you in the last decade they have spent more than any other club and last season they had the highest wage bill of any club.

Yet they celebrated an FA Cup like they won the treble.

**** United.  Welcome Onana.

Onana, Kamara, Barrenechea. who’s stats belongs to who?

I’m guessing, from top to bottom:

Enzo

Onana

Kamara

Obviously Doug is the better attacking player, but Onana outshines him in everything else.

With coaching from Unai and a different system there is alot of room for growth here

We could make him our Yaya Toure!

Best thing about this signing is that we won't have to worry about Barkley, Tielemans or even McGinn in a double pivot. Kamara - Onana in the big games would be crazy solid too.

We have Enzo too.

Can't say that I saw this one coming.

From what I've seen in clips so far, his positional sense is excellent. He moves well for a tall guy, too

I usually get it wrong when I try to analyze the reasons for transfers, but I'll take a shot. I'm going to assume that we're still 4-4-2 in defence and most often 3-box-3 in attack.

I agree with everyone that Onana's here for the Kamara role in the double pivot. I think that Enzo was signed for this role, too. It seems to me that they want two capable DMs even before Kamara comes back. If Enzo ends up surplus to requirements after Kamara is back, so be it.

What I see differently than some people is that I think Barkley was signed to be the other double pivot and take over Doug's role. He operated as the deep lying playmaker for Luton last year and will probably do the same for us. I don't see Tielemans playing that role unless necessary because of injuries. He's really better off in the front of the box than the back.

As for the front of the box, we have Rogers and JJ on the left, McGinn and Tielemans on the right. And that doesn't even take into consideration that Buendia can play in midfield too, though he will probably play in the forward line (especially if Diaby moves on as rumoured).

I have no idea where Iling fits into all this, but it may be telling that that the club's web site describes him as a winger. Maybe he's there to provide width on the left in attack in matches where the left back can't join the attack for tactical reasons.

Don't know if this was right but was interesting to read. thanks

If we're going to even do Luiz v Onana comparisons shouldn't we at least compare Onana to a Luiz of 3 years ago to be fair? If I remember correctly many Villa fans wrote that Luiz off.

I think it's only fair to say, the introduction of Boubacar Kamara made a marked difference to Dougies game, in the position he played....so the comments at the time, could have been fair.

Fundamentally most players have an offensive and defensive side to their game.....the really top ones, can have both.

It depends what lens folk are looking through, when appraising a player, so it follows, differences of opinion can result, depending what slant is put on the appraisal.

I think dougie is a fine footballer, with huge offensive skill set.....not particularly overawed with his defensive side....but that's just my take.

I purely meant because of age mate. Luiz is 3 years older and 23 is still very young for a player.
