Enzo Barrenechea

We have to remember preseason has different emphasis for different players.

Guys like Bailey, Cash, and Barkley will just be looking to get their fitness up, and not get injured.

Whereas guys like Iling-Jr,  Barrenechea, Nedeljovic, Barry, and Young will be trying to impress and show their worth.

These early preseason games mean very little outside of fitness.

Apparently Barrenechea means ‘in the down part of the house’ so if he’d had been English he would’ve been called ‘Eddie Basement’….what a great name.

Enzo  = Henry and Basement = Cellar.

Therefore...

Guy’s just arrived and already outclassed the Donk…

Really glad the two played along side each other because you can clearly see Enzo is a far better player (with the standard caveat this was a preseason game against inferior opposition).

The simple passing around to keep the ball moving or change attack angles is one thing but the dink over the top through ball and the no hesitation in shooting from outside the boxare great signs as they're features of Dougie's game we need to keep.

He did really well for a first run out 👍

Cheers for resharing this. You can actually see him growing in confidence as the clip goes on. I really enjoyed his performance - especially towards the end of the half where he was completely dictating play.

It's also interesting that, despite them playing in the same area of the pitch, his involvement massively outweighed Dendoncker's who didn't really get on the ball much.

Wasn’t Emi Martinez at Arsenal for 8 years and fairly unknown/under-utilised until the latter part of his final season there….he’s done alright since.

Yes. My point was that he wasn't in Juventus's plans, not that he won't do ok for us.

He was injured for a year and was said to be very much in Juventus's plans this season (if all the stuff around the transfer is to be believed).

Be really interested to see how he plays against a hard press. Both Dougie and Kamara got caught a couple of times, but then kept on improving there. When done well it’s a key part of our play and if he can turn out and pass around the press it’ll be impressive.
Also we all know Unai encouraged Dougie play throughout and always giving advice, was Enzo also getting that?
