Tielemans is a useful player. But Douglas Luiz was one of the best midfielders of PL. If you replace DL with his last year substitute, your first 11 is worse.

There’s a reason Douglas Luiz became one of the best midfielders in the League and that reason is Unai Emery

But to satisfy the accounts we are … We’re not cash poor whatsoever just spreadsheet restricted - big big difference

Even with Juventus inflating the value of the 2 players they are giving us it is still coming in at around £50-55m so some way short.

It also means we have to amortise the players coming in so that we can spend next month meaning we will probably have PSR issues again in future summers and have to sell another key player.

If only we had that £400m in revenue that Chris Heck talks about now rather than in 5 years time....

That we were forced to make or get docked points.

Probably worth remembering we “forced” ourselves into this position in the first place.

Still doesn't make it right. We really shouldn't be finding ourselves in this situation again in future. We have no bargaining position whatsoever it seems.

So do we like this kid more than McKennie?

He's less fat :thumb:

Chubby chasers will be at him as soon as he doesn't play well. Saying we should have signed porker McKennie.

Well yes. Quite. But that doesn't help us much at this second. At the end of the day we have to make a deal that gets us out of the doo doo but doesn't completely hamstring us next year.

This is the conversation.

Villa: we’d like Locatelli as part of the Luiz deal

Juve: No

If Luiz has to go, then we need more South Americans within the side. Can’t believe we’ll only have Carlos as our remaining Brazilian… that itself is devastating.

We're being forced to do this due to PSR (with Juve exploiting that) and we also all trust Unai but it's fair to say many of us would prefer more established names than Iling Jnr & Barrenechia.

One positive is that they'll be cheaper in wages than Dougie (needed for UEFA rules) and we've been saying we want the players before they become stars so can't then turn our noses up when we try to do that.

We also have two very experienced scouts in Alberto Benito and Pablo Rodriguez who work closely with Unai and Monchi. Not to mention our analytics teams. I imagine we proposed a bunch of alternatives to Juve, including Soule (which they rejected).

There’s no need for sensible and rational posts 🤣

Are Juve the only club interested in Luiz or something?

It would appear so. But some on here think there should be clubs lining up for him, and we should be swatting away 80m+ bids.

It's more like McKennie is asking for Digne level wages, so we have to switch targets. At the end we are doing this deal for PSR reasons, yes we definitely won't get full value for Luiz but we don't really need it either

Not convinced Luiz wouldn't go even without PSR issues. Didn't sign a new contract etc. Reckon both parties best for both parties ways.
