I’d say so, we name 3 in a match day squad alone, it only takes one suspension/injury and you have no backup.

So we are fine for the Premier League rules whereby we could actually add another player to the squad and still be ok with the rules.

For the Champions League, with Archer and Kesler-Hayden both departed, that means we can now only register a maximum 23-man squad until the new year. With Nedeljkovic, Iling-Junior and Duran added to the A-List, that means we currently have 27 players, so 4 of the above will not be registered and also keep in mind about how any new signing would affect this. The 4 likely to be left out would be one of the left-backs, Kamara, perhaps one of Olsen or Gauci and then one out of Dendoncker, Barrenechea or Iling-Junior.

When do we have to register our PL squad?   It seems weird we can play matches before registering the squad assuming that it's once the transfer window closes.

It is weird. Presumably it's possible to actually play more different players than should be allowed and "break" the rules before the squad is even registered.

reckon good chance kamara is not registered for CL squad...he won't be playing much before xmas anyway so might as well not bother. between GW6 (end 2024) and GW7 (beginning 2025) you get a chance to register additional players

My current expectation is Zych takes up the reserve gk role, and we don't register Gauci for it (though I'd much rather it was Olsen we dropped).

Donk doesn't get in. 

Kamara gets left off until January, at which point he comes back in and Duran moves to B squad.

That leaves a 4th, which I guess will be whichever left back gets sold (I'm guessing we're going is Moreno). If we don't shift him,  Iling-Jr probably gets dropped instead on the basis of not really being ready for it anyway.

Doesn't seem likely that were signing anyone else unless we manage to sell both Moreno and Carlos.

Just another small update for the Champions League squad as we are in the final week of the transfer window. We can also take out Moreno and Iling-Junior from the squad after their loan deals.

So that leaves us with 25 now in the Champions League squad and we can only name 23. One of Dendoncker/Barrenechea and Gauci/Olsen you would suspect would be left out at the moment, particularly if Kamara is hopefully going to be available for some part of the League Phase. Again any new signing would mean that someone else will have to be left out or loaned/sold this week.

Boubacar Kamara and Tyrone Mings have both been named in the squad. 19 young players are included in the initial B List, but it is unlimited and can be changed at anytime.

Being 21 we'd have had to drop Gauci or Olsen to let him in. There's no way that was ever happening when Lander barely gets any game time at youth level anyway.

He didn't accept a 5 year contract offer last winter,  so I guess the negotiations are on going and linked to if he wants to be named? If he signs he could be added at any time.

Ran across this impressive piece of journalism after seeing headline 'Aston Villa Champions League squad confirmed as Unai Emery omits £32m man' and thinking what £32m man could that be..

Turns out it is Boubacar Kamara who was free (just happens to be valued 32m on transfermarkt), and is not only named in the squad, he's listed in the squad they print at bottom of article saying he's been omitted
