Play Bellingham as a 6 with rice and Palmer on the left ( should be Grealish......) foden number 10 and saka on the right, kane up front.

Just use Bellingham as a box to box midfielder next to Rice as we don’t need two holding midfielders (another gutless tactical inclusion instigated by Southgate) and the put Foden/Cole behind the striker and either Eze or Clare Balding on the left wing.

Its not so difficult really.

Germany are playing Wirtz and Muisala as 2 10s we could do that with Bellingham and Foden.
Or as Kane is dropping deep all the time, play him as a support striker like Emery does and have Ollie ahead of him, with then Bellingham and Rice in midfield.
We have so many options and all would make us better, yet he will always play 4231 and not have any cohesion.

Even a 3-5-2 would be better than the current line up. Guehi, Stones and Konsa at the back. Trent and Trippier as genuine wingbacks, allowed to cross. Bellingham and Rice in the middle with Foden ahead of them, and Kane & Saka up top (okay, Watkins would be better, but Saka could be Southgate’s mandatory shoehorn)

Our problem isn’t that foden should be a 10, it’s that we’re playing a right footer behind him who constantly has to cut inside and occupy Foden’s space.

Moving foden to 10 and Bellingham back is just moving more players out of position to shoehorn everyone in

The issue is no better on the other side though really I don't think either fullback is really bombing on

Bellingham has played as a dm, number 6. He can.dictate play from there better than anyone else and Foden can play the number 10 role and do it well.

I don’t know why you put yourselves through it. After enduring 70 mins of the first game I didn’t even bother with this one, I can’t deal with the disappointment of watching how bad we are. There’s no plan, no style of play, no tactical adjustments, it’s just shite. 8 years or whatever it’s been and he still hasn’t got a clue.

We can talk all we like about formations and players who should be playing but I think the issue is more fundamental then that. Whilst shuffling the pack a bit might see a slight improvement the main problem is that they're clearly going out there with little conviction in what they're supposed to be doing. They are the embodiment of the manager.

Seeing Stones and Walker unable to play out from the back when that has been their m.o. for almost a decade should tell you everything you need to know about how lacking we are in structure. We are lucky enough to know what a well coached football team looks like, as are City, Arsenal and Liverpool fans. So when you see what England have just served up it's obvious where the problem lies and it won't be fixed by swapping a couple of players around or switching to a back 3, two 10s or whatever else.

The whole set up is wrong.

The defence is unbalanced, which partly is difficult because the left back options are dire and rest of the defence is cobbled together so has no unity or understanding.

The midfield is silly. Rice doesn't play like a disciplined DM, but he's also not a deep playmaker, so he's just there standing on the CBs toes and doing nothing. TAA isn't a midfielder, he doesn't think like a midfielder, he's a wingback that can ping the ball and can't defend, he doesn't fit in a system in midfield and it undermines everything around him and doesn't highlight any of the things he's good at. Bellingham is trying to play in a kind of free advanced CM role where he's kinda mixing a CAM role with some more CM responsibilities but not going full box to box, but it doesn't work because there's not enough control and cohesion of the match behind him, so he ends up dropping back or being missed entirely. Foden can't play on the left and seems to also have a free role to come inside, which essentially means he's never on the left exposing the LB even more, and like Bellingham the game passes him by. Which leaves Saka as the only reliable wide ball carrier, which makes us very predictable as he's also the only out ball most of the time, due to another problem, and he gets gassed.

And then there's Kane. He's slow and lumbering, and for all that he can pass his dropping deep for the ball hurts far more than it helps because we lose an out ball and lose a way to stretch defenders as he runs back to pick the ball up in midfield making us even more predictable and his getting in the way. And he doesn't press at all.

Then you combine that with the way we are coached, which is hyper cautious hyper defensive, and it's just **** dire. We're obsessed with game management and risk aversion. It makes for a miserable watch and stifles the talent and ability we have.

It's all rotten.

It must be demoralizing for the current midfielders to know they arent as welcome as a fat clogger version of Karl Henry in the squad

You would say "ahh well,.it's the first game, the players are probably a bit nervous"

And then you look at Walker, Kane, Trippier, Trent, Pickford, Stones and you have an abundance of tournament games, backed up with a generational talent in Jude, Rice who is a great player and Foden/Saka who have come off the back of great seasons for their clubs.

Then you look back at the pre tournament games and it was the same, but you say "ahh well, Southgate is just experimenting, bringing in newer players, but this game played out exactly the same as the vast majority of England games verses very average teams, who may have a couple of bright spots who play in good leagues.

Then you look at past tournaments and you think "has anything actually changed?"

Then you realise nothing has changed.  If we score, we sit back and can't hit anyone on the break because our wingers are told to trackback and Kane has to hold the ball up, whilst surrounded by multiple defenders.  It happened against Italy in the last Euro final.

If we go one up, you know you're in for a terrible game.

As soon as we go up against a Italy, Germany, France, Spain or even maybe Netherlands, we'll be absolutely dismantled by a team with a clear plan.

I absolutely hate Southgate.  He should have gone after the last final.

"BUT NO OTHER MANAGER HAS GOT US TO A FINAL SINCE 66!!"

We got there in spite of the big nosed jizz goblin.

Get rid.

Good shout @lapal_fan 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
