In fairness, Portugal were pretty crap when they won it in 2016, only showing up in the final so it certainly can happen

Portugal weren't great but they had a better defensive structure than England imo.

England would concede plenty of chances to a rapid and fluid front 3, just look at what Spain have out this tournament.

Luck of the draw they haven't yet but will change next round.

Rice, Foden, and Trippier absolutely cannot start the next game. Rice has been awful the whole tournament, and I'll be generous to Trippier and just say he's out of his depth in an unfamiliar position. Foden just doesn't suit the system.

Bellingham showed why we need to keep him advanced. Genuine superstar.

Surely it’s not hard to see how scraping through with an awful performance might mean getting through is far less likely to happen next time.

Then add in that once again our media seemingly refuse to call a spade a spade

We're going to have it rammed down our throats about how incredible he is, give him the knighthood, build the statue, we're lucky to have such a top class manager

While we're all sat here thinking this is **** awful and us losing is inevitable

The gap between the media opinion and the fan opinion is a chasm right now, happens all the time, makes it so hard to enjoy watching England

I'd **** love it if someone stuck their head above the parapet and said kane and foden are playing shit

Never mind how he didn't affect the game at all and spent more time on the ground than making ground. There were about 6 other people in the box including defenders, his goal didn't have anything to do with being advanced.

Don’t care how we did, getting through is all that counts.

Why do you defend Gerrard and Southgate but have less patience with Emery?

How can he affect the game when Foden and Kane keep occupying his space? We'll see the best of him if those two f off

Tbf Lineker and Shearer said Kane was playing shit. He threw shade back at Lineker.

You can bet that once Gareth is gone we get a genuine top class manager and he gets shafted with constant group of death and impossible draws over and over.

Let's be brutally honest, England were abject for 94 minutes.

Even in extra time, we sat back and had like one single decent counter in 30 minutes after we'd scored!

The one thing on that is I find it strange that some people think that whoever comes is is going to click their fingers and have England playing like Spain. It’s far more likely a Capello type situation happens.

He's not that player. It's like asking JJ to play #10. He'll get a goal or 2, but the team will be worse off. He's an 8, he doesn't have the touch, weight of pass or vision to play further up. At least with my JJ hypothetical, he can actually drive the ball forward.

He’ll change one player. If that

Why would he do that. Today worked. It's proof It's working. Southgate is right and everyone else in the world is wrong.
