It’s pretty incredible how every tournament opens up like this for him.

It’s bonkers. I was saying to a mate today that if Sven had got the draws Southgate had he’d 100% have got to a final. Instead he got Brazil and Portugal twice relatively early in the knockouts

Here's hoping! But I think it's Slovakia rather than Georgia

If group C, D, E and F have the best 3rd place teams, we get Slovakia. This is the current situation.
If group F fails to get the 3rd best team we get Netherlands.

France 98 aswell. England did finish second in fairness which complicated things but ultimately to get to the final it would've been a run of Argentina-Holland-Brazil.

Other side of the draw would've been Germany in quarters and France in SF.

Euro 96 aswell with Spain and Germany back to back.

Without question he's had the best tournament draws of any England manager in living memory.

Our side is unquestionably the "easy" side. But our path to the final is still most likely:

  1. Netherlands
  2. Italy
  3. Belgium

It could definitely have been much worse, but if Southgate somehow turns this tournament around and goes through those teams to the final, it'll be an incredible turnaround and we'd be worthy finalists, no matter how terrible we've been so far.

Can scrub the Dutch off as things stand (although maybe they could be SF opponents if they're still in this half of the draw).

Think Swiss will knock Italy out.

Belgium are nothing special as seen in the groups, slow defence so they'd really need their midfielders to roll back the years which is possible if England continue to be as pedestrian as they've been.

Based on the groups Swiss and Austria would be tough match ups for England just as Denmark were in the last Euros.

hope he hasnt mixed Slovakia and Slovenia up in his scouting reports

Ironically played Slovakia in the final group game of 2016 and that was as boring a 0-0 (under Hodgson) as last night was.

Skinrar and Lobotka are good defensive players so won't be easy to break them down but they don't have much upfront looking at them in the group games.
