People were going way OTT about our way form in the first half of the season. In reality when you look at how finishes 4th-8th most seasons they usually average 7-8 away wins so that looks very achieveable again this season. True but we did get away with a few results last season. We weren't always in control of games. In the first three games this season I think we've been the better team each game but not killing games off.
Vive_La_Villa
Looking at all the tough champions league fixtures in between tough league games it does feel like we haven't got the squad to cope. Even yesterday seemed a struggle and we lost 2 players to injuries.Something will have to give. I guess it is what it is. Just have to try and enjoy it and hope for the best. 1

I think we'll spend something if we're right up in the top 4 in January again. Not a big signing, but maybe plug a gap somewhere if we're confident of getting into Europe again. If we can improve our ppg this season that's probably a good metric for progress. We managed 1.78 last season, anything nearer two than that and we'll be right in the mix for the CL again. Then again spurs battered us at VP last season and we still finished 4th so maybe it doesn’t mean too much.

Not convinced.
GeordieVillan
Very early days. We just need to keep pace with the teams at the top until Christmas and we will be in with a shout. Newcastle have beenpoor in all 3 games and have 7 points, we have played well in all 3 games (yesterday was the worst of the 3) and we only have 6 points. It’s too early to tell who can and will stick it out. As others have said, Spurs should have won today and also at Leicester. We have 3 winnable games before we play Man Utd at VP, if we can win 2 of the next 3 then we will be sitting on 12 points after 6 games and that’s a very decent start in terms of PPG. Let’s just worry about ourselves! Edited September 1 by GeordieVillan

Need to do what we did last season and accumulate a decent amount of points in September and October. The games are there to be won given who we're playing. November looks a really nasty month just with the prem fixtures before we add in CL. Let's remember we had indifferent form from late December up to March so slumps can happen for 5-6 games and yet you can still achieve your season objective.

I feel like Newcastle will be the sort of team that will keep on grinding up wins at home but they'll be found out away. When you look at the league now the three coming up seem to be continually awful and then you have the likes of Everton who've badly declined so really to be in top 6 contention you need to winning 10 homes minimum. Pretty much all the top 6-7 do that so comes down to who can get regular away wins on the road. Contrary to popular opinion we were doing that up to March last season before things tailed off. Newcastle last year only managed two away wins up to May. Have a look at how bad Spur's away form has been in 2024, only games they've won away were the 4-0 at VP and Sheffield United.

Jareth
Feels like this season has started where last season signed off. Can see us competing for top 4 again with traditional 'big 6' teams falling short again. They'll have to come up with a new definition of big 6. I know, but I mean if this season unfolds like the last, the big six is another year away from ever existing, they really will need a new definition to describe the clubs that compete at the top of the table.
