Don't really get any stick for Carragher. Think 6th is a perfectly reasonable prediction and would actually represent a positive season for Villa. It's looking like it'll be a crazily competitive league this season and I wouldn't take umbrage with anyone having Villa anywhere from 4th to 8th. Some of Neville's shouts were a bit mad all round, not really specifically a slight against Villa.

So do I.

we have brought in a bunch of players and let a couple of important players go.

4th to 8th is much of a muchness, you have to see how the decisions fall for you, injuries etc

3 points out of West Ham (A) and Arsenal (H) is a good start and I would have probably taken it pre hand

We have some real winnable games coming up

Leicester (a) - WIN

Everton (h) - WIN

Wolves (h) - WIN

Ipswich (a) - WIN

Man Utd (h) - DRAW (due to the curse)

Fulham (a) - WIN

Bournemouth (h) - WIN

Is this possible? Likely?

Where does this put us in the table?  Surely in the top 4?

You’d think 2nd or 3rd

We'd have been in the top 4 if we'd won yesterday. That's 7 unbeaten with 6 wins, so yes probably 2nd

Any hope that Liverpool would struggle under the new manager should be put to bed tbh.  They look as rampant as ever

Kind start tbf

If we want to qualify for UCL again - we will need a run like that at some point in the season.  Despite the Arsenal loss, we've started strong and need to capitalize on the upcoming "soft"  fixtures.

Too early to look at the table even after those games.

That's for Emery to worry about. Not keyboard warriors like us.

From my point of view this new successful Villa is a new experience and in a way it makes the losses more painful as we’re actually playing for something now and it means more.

Its like I’ve got so much faith and respect for the manager and back the ability and effort from the players so much that I feel sorry for them when we don’t get the result.

I’ve tried to make a pact with myself to just enjoy the positives this season and try not to let the losses sting too much or detract from the amazing experience of being back in the UCL and fighting for Europe in the league

Anticipating six wins in a row is setti g yourself up for disappointment

My assessment so far but its too early to tell:

Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool - Title Contenders
Villa - If you've watched the first two villa games and don't see a good side there, you need to open your eyes. Big contenders for 4th
Spurs - Looks the same Spurs from last season. Expect lots of goals for and against them. Expect them to use injury excuses again. Big contenders for 4th
Chelsea - They have some attack but are conceding too many chances. Next 5 games against midtable sides will tell us a lot them. With 10 players in each position they've gotta be Contenders for 4th
West Ham - Can only get better. No Europe. Impressive win away to Palace - Contenders for 4th
Brighton - They have so many tricky dribblers, well balanced and know how they wanna play. They will cause a lot of teams trouble this season and be fun to watch. No europe. Darkhorses for top 4
Man United - Looks the same Man United from last season. Not found the balance yet. Fulham really cut them apart at times. As soon as they played a better side in Brighton they lost. Not worried about them so far.
Newcastle - Very Lucky to get 4 points on board. Starting Murphy, Burn, Krafth, Longstaff who I don't think would get in the Villa starting 11. Still have Matt Targett on the bench. Not worried about them so far.

We’d easily be in the top 4 if we got those results. But we won’t

Very unlikely that’s achievable. Aren’t we going to have champs league games in between some of those as well?

Likely top....

Man. City-Arsenal is happening end of September and Arsenal also got Spurs away so might drop points to them.

Not sure if Man. City have an easy start but last September they were losing to Wolves away so usually have those type of results in first 10 games.

Winning 6 of our next 7 is possible but would be some going considering we'll have two CL fixtures and also league cup in that timeframe.

Will finally be good to see on Thursday who we're playing and the recovery time between those matches and premier league.

Bookies pricing us 4/1 for top 4 (seven teams ahead of us). I honestly think that’s great value from where I’m sat. I’m really confident that Unai isnt going to take us backwards this season
