T-Dog
Genuine question... What do you know more about than the average Joe and how did you get there? Personally, early house music and vinyl prices from the 2000s, absolutely no use in my current life. A job in a renowned Birmingham based record store in my late teens and many years of DJing and promoting. And spreadsheets/databases, slightly more useful in my current life. Comes from accidently becoming a corporate spiv 15 years ago. Sales was shit, spreadsheets were ace. How about you?
Seat68
I reckon I could put in a good showing on Mastermind with Johnny Cash or country music in general. There others that will know more but it's areas that I know and wouldn't have to confirm too much information on Wikipedia. That or late 80s early 90s indie music. Proper indie not landfill indie.
mjmooney Posted April 5 VT Supporter Share Posted April 5 (edited) I used to play Quizup a lot, and got to be #1 in the UK on Bob Dylan. At one point I played an American bloke who was #1 in the world, and beat him. I offered him a replay and he declined. But really I'm a quiz generalist - jack of all trades and master of none. Strong on music (except modern shit), art, literature and history. Weak on maths, science and technology. Edited April 5 by mjmooney

chrisp65
Fish, for some reason I can identify a huuuge number of fish species. On the stall in the market, on a tv nature programme, spotted in a rock pool. It’s very rare I don’t instantly know what fish that is. Cookie cutter, monk, mullet, stickle back, finger, or thresher, I’m yer man. 1
bickster Posted April 6 Moderator Share Posted April 6 Taxi dispatch algorithms The topography of Merseyside (excluding the Wirral) and I mean in a way that I’d beat any taxi driver with 30 years experience in a topographical knowledge test. Routes naming nearly every street, mileages the lot. I really do have this uncanny ability above what you’d expect given my job, in fact this is one of my abilities that for where I am today
rjw63
The History of The Beach Boys and specifically Dennis Wilson. Im also quite good at naming a song after hearing only two or three notes (but same as @mjmooneynon of this new shit).

Anthony Posted April 6 VT Supporter Share Posted April 6 Care and healing of chronic wounds. i.e. skincare. Was a rep for a while. Astonishing lack of knowledge in the medical profession about how skin heals. Plenty of knowledge about internal body parts, bugger all about what it's all wrapped in. Nurses get about a day's training on it. Doctors get none whatsoever. General financial advice (not current products) Computer software mechanic stuff ”Why is it borked?" Kind of stuff. And windows installations stuff.

tonyh29
If I needed a specialist subject for Mastermind I guess it would be The Beatles (hi @bickster ) I know more than the average Joe about Ancient Egypt but not enough to risk humiliation on TV by picking it though. If I could go back in time and pick a new career I’d love to have done archeology and live and work on excavations in Egypt I’m similar to @mjmooney really though , a good generalist on quizzes, I could probably help him on a team with the very few gaps in his knowledge , unless the question was modern shit music in which case we’d both sit there looking at our feet Edited April 6 by tonyh29
