It was reported by multiple sources that his salary was in excess of €200k per week when he was loaned out to Chelsea was a big stumbling block for any future deal.

This is without factoring in Joao Felix’s salary — well in excess of £200,000 a week — which would put him in the upper reaches of a Chelsea wage structure that Boehly and Clearlake are trying to bring down to a more sustainable level

Oh FFS, more like 125k pw.

How many times?

Prior to joining Barcelona, Felix put pen to paper on a new long-term deal with Atletico that will keep him at the club until 2029.

This contract also included a pay reduction of 50 per cent for the period 2024-29.

A weird one, because possibly a " downgrade " as a winger, but an upgrade as a second striker/10 through the middle etc.

yeah i think this is probably how we should evaluate the signing.

Can you actually provide evidence that his salary isn’t this high? I am genuinely curious now. Otherwise, it’s a perfectly valid critique

Have done, sooooo many times.

I’m tired of this.

There’s no doubt it would an interesting signing. But I agree with Fab I thibk this one would be a massive financial stretch. Unless we can sort out some kind of loan with a buy option and make the decision next summer.

diaby to felix would definitely feel like a downgrade

if the rumours of a £60m release clause for eze are true, that just feels like an absolute no brainer

All good saying Eze has a £60 million release clause but he is not coming to Villa (or Spurs). He will end up at one the big boys even if he waits another year.

Appreciated as possible option, that's Romano code for we like the player but it's likely not going to happen, and are possibly using the link - with Romano's help, as that's what clubs do, as a smokescreen for a different player

Yeah I think it could well be a loan with mandatory buy option. Large loan fee to deduct off the eventual purchase price.

If he'll sign up for £125k, no worries.

They're desperate to get rid. He's desperate to leave. We aren't desperate for anything.

We should be getting an excellent deal or no deal. Easy street all the way.

50% of what though? Let’s assume that’s correct, that’s still potentially £200k - the actual doesn’t mention £125k, he took a special exemption to sign for Barcelona. Even Romano acknowledges there are serious financial barriers too.

We tried to sign Felix back in the January window when he ended up at Chelsea. Unai spoke openly about it when he was questioned on it then. Gave him high praise too, the reason it didn’t happen was because we didn’t have CL football to offer at the time. Said it wasn’t “impossible” back then, it’s much more possible now…

Those quotes have been posted many, many times here.

With his reduced wages, and earning way less than that while on loan at Barca, it is not financially difficult or impossible.

If Unai wants him, and Felix wants the move, it will happen.

Otherwise, we move on to other targets.

He’s not on a crazy wage and probably doesn’t have mental demands (at this stage and with the way things have been going, wants out and needs a move and a home rather than another temporary move). Looks like he’ll either end up at Benfica or at Villa…

Barca (debt riddled buffoons) won’t ever move for him if they get their priority targets in Williams and Olmo, even though they were interested in keeping him (aswell as the new manager).

If there was ever any genuine interest, now is the time to get him. Otherwise, just leave it forever. He’s not going to be this affordable again.

He's shown he will take a lay cut to move so he can play football. He knows nobody will pay him the wage he's on at Atletico. I'm sure we can offer around £140/150k.per week

His wage was anywhere between 200-250k (never been on more than that) and that’s probably euros. So half of that. Multiple articles and sources, including Spanish media.

His loan to Barca was conditional on him signing that extension and reducing his wages. Then temporarily reduced to a massive degree just for the loan. Now he’s back on the wage and deal until 2029 he signed with Atletico before that loan.

Atlético have kept extending his contract to try n protect some of his value and get some money back off of him. It’s their fault they payed a crazy fee and put him on crazy wages initially… and the manager probably being too stubborn to reconcile or make it work that has contributed to them needing to sell and making a loss.

-

Can we move on from this now please?

We might not even sign him, but let’s try n keep our facts straight on the other stuff.
