Some RM as well, can see him and McGinn rotating.

The RM here is right wing back in a 3-5-2. But yeah, I see him as most comparable to McGinn out of the players we have.

Man really said Buendia isn't that good...

He isn't. Lightweight, slow, not a dribbler, gives the ball away all the time. But sometimes plays a beautiful assist pass, or scores the occasional goal. For what he does well, he does at least as much poorly.

Yep, will take a lot of the pressure off McGinn and allow him to be rested.  Means we still need a Doug replacement because McKennie is not that guy, unless Tielemans or Barkley will play there?

Mainly CM according to transfermarkt. Kostic and Cambiasso mainly played the wing back roles.

Would people please stop being so lazy. Just listen to the Italian football experts who've gone on villa podcasts this week who explain in detail their views. Also read the articles about McKennie. These are views built from people who watch him every week in Series A. You will get 3+ different peoples opinions on the player.

For example where McKennie is listed as CM in the transfermarkt what we don't get is that Cambiasso played as inverted fullback moving into midfield and McKennie as the RCM of a 3 was tasked with operating as a winger. When McKennie started as RM in transfermarkt he was operating as a RWB

You would only know this type of information by listening to people and reading people who are Italian football experts.

All Villa No Filler and for the love of Paul McGrath. Listen to those and read the detailed team talk article about McKennie.

Once you have got all the expert views you'll get the understanding this player is not a Luiz replacement. He's a different player and will fill a different role.

We'll also need a Kamara replacement, or stand in for half the season. Be interesting to see what the plan is for the midfield because the current rumored group doesn't look like a complete skill set.

Yeah I fully get that he's not a Luix replacements as I've pointed out right from the start. He's also not a Kamara replacement. McGinn is the closest comp, As stated.

I think the Kamara DM backup/rotation is more urgent.  Tielemans can play were Luiz played and the same role, only concern would be his injury record.  I think after June 30th and more likely after Euros we'll see some big signings.

I think Luiz replacement will be someone who can also cover for Kamara in the a more defensive role when needed, which is exactly what Luiz was/is when you think about it.

Top player, mentioned him yesterday so perhaps someone is moonlighting on the forum.

If they are I also like the looks of Wirtz, Musiala, Simons and Guler. Not to mention Thuram, Wieffer, Toure, Kilicsoy and Gloukh.

He could play as second striker where Diaby was playing yeah. We did play with a deep lying playmaker with Dougie, we don’t have that currently until he’s replaced. But we also played Tielemans and McGinn in advanced midfield positions to create. Tielemans was really good there and better than in a deeper role in my opinion.

I don’t think I’ve been harsh on Diaby, he didn’t have a great season and he played better at Leverkusen as a winger. He always looked lost playing as a 10/second striker in my opinion and we didn’t get the best out of him.

I agree Ramsey can play centre mid but we haven’t played him there for a long time and I don’t think Emery sees him there. He starts on the left then drifts inside to be a 10 when we have the ball.

Betis can’t afford £7-8m? You do know they spent £30m last season on players? If they want Moreno back I’m sure they could afford him.

Our left winger comes narrow to play as a 10, Roger is a left winger (according to you), but not a 10. That's a little contradictory.

Tielemans is a DLP and always has been. Whether in central midfield or double pivot he is doing the same thing, trying to retain possession, recycle the ball, and probing for openings via more direct passes. That's a DLP. Barkley also did this very well for Luton this season. Sp we have two DLP's. Also Mcginn can do that job to a lesser extent. Tielemans did really well there when Luiz was suspended. Also Tielemans shooting from distance is very good, which means in that deeper position he can make better use of this asset.

Diaby always looks lost when doing anything defensive. I too prefer him as a right winger, but can certainly score and assist in that 10 / SS position.

Betis got a good deal of money from selling players. Particularly Moreno's 12m fee 18 months ago. They have a vit of money, but that much for a 30 year old left back coming off a major hamstring surgery, I doubt it.

This is exactly how I feel about the deal but everyone else on here seems so relaxed about it.

Monchi has a lot of work to do now and bring in some actual quality, because if this sort of negotiating continues then he won’t last long here.

I do too. But we need to take the positives as well as the negatives.

I really think Barkley and Tielemans will be used mostly at CMs next season. Partnering Kamara or a Gallagher. As Barkley and Tielemans have the best passing ability relative to other players in squad or linked.

Gallagher looks to be getting a new contract, so zero chance he's coming now.  Also he's not the same knid of player as Kamara, Gallagher is more like McGinn, and we're getting McKennie by the looks of it to cover SJM.

Kamara is an awkward one to replace, he's pretty young himself so it's not a case of getting a young player to come in and learnt he ropes.  I think we'll see a loan to come in as Kamara replacement then rotation, or as @useless said, some who can replace Luiz AND Kamara, would be an expensive signing whoever it is.

Don't see Gallagher being signed to play the same role as Kamara tbh.
