Popular Post markavfc40
I don't know if we can feel too sorry for ourselves. I'd be confident in saying we are going to be in the top 7/8 in Prem league when it comes to wage bill. We've also spent a fair chunk since we came back into the Premier League and that has perhaps been a little distorted as we picked up both Kamara and Tielemans (arguably 100 mill combined value) on free transfers but they'll be on huge wages. I think this is likely to be the toughest window for us and we overcome this and hopefully maintain a top 5 finish/qualify for Champs league again then we'll be laughing. Our revenue will have increased massively, we'll have the guarantee of maintaining that, and we'll have cracked that ceiling. The squad perhaps isn't going to be as strong as we'd have liked but the huge counter balance to that is that we have for me one of the top two managers in the league. FWIW I think we'll see at least one more signing, likely a loan ,and perhaps in a few hours from now a decent window could still be pushed up to be judged as a good window. It’s obvious we need spending caps to ensure competitiveness and to prevent nation states from spending £100bn. But they should be equal for all teams in the league! Literally how can you have a fair sport where each team carries a different handicap? How is that ever going to produce a true competition that isn’t rigged in favour of some teams? In most sports the handicaps aren't applied equally - but they are applied more heavily to the better / more successful teams. Football's gone the other. It's like changing horse racing so that the most successful horses (i.e. those that win the most) are given the smallest weights because they should be rewarded for being successful and then the other horses are given heavier weights to punish them for not winning as much prize money.

All players start out unproven He hasn't featured at all in the first team so it's a big ask to expect him to possibly come in and cover in the PL or CL. I don't think he's actually played in any cup games either. He might settle really well eventually but going into the season possibly relying on him with the competitions we are competing in is a gamble. A big gamble. Thinking the same… thought it was going to be one or the other originally (would have liked to keep Enzo around). A defender on loan, at least, unless we can bring in Hermoso now, on a free, and freed up space for his wages? Just doesn’t “feel” like anything is going to happen but we have until 11pm… Edited August 30 by Jas10
Philosopher
The squad is similar in numbers to last season, only greater depth! So it is an improvement. Barkley is our 4th choice DM compared to Dendonker last season. Nedeljovic is our back up right back compared to Kessler-Hayden. Ming compared to Lenglet. Bailey coming good, Rogers' emergence, combined with the return of Ramsey and Buendia see us better in the CAM / wide forward positions. Duran has a season developing, learning and maturing, so should improve. We are stronger than last season at this point in time. Whether it's strong enough for Champions League qualification, and doing ourselves justice in the champions league is unclear. They're are 5 or 6 teams on paper in a better position with their squad than us.

paul514
I see the melt down has begun. i wouldn’t have made all the signings we have chosen to do (we all have our own wants) but if the club don’t sign anyone today you can be assured it’s because the rules say we can’t for our position.

I still think there is a massive concern over this tbh. It's okay saying players will boost the squad when they're back but if they have at any point setbacks or struggle to get beck to pre injury levels then we are very light. Especially in defence with Mings. Add in the factor that Torres and Konsa spent good portions of the last campaign injured, I think it's inevitable the same will happen this season which imo will leave us in a precarious situation. Especially when you factor in that Carlos doesn't have the best record for staying injury free either. Presumably the recruitment, coaching and medical teams have access to a lot more information about the status of the injuries to Mings and Kamara than we do. It is highly unlikely that the people in charge are just crossing their fingers and hoping for the best.

Popular Post East London Villa
If Barrenechea Dendoncker leave today and we bring nobody else in, our squad size is identical to the one we approached the 1st half of last season with. And the 2nd half of last season. 24 players, with 2 per position + 3rd choice goalkeeper + 1 spare utility player. This is the senior squad size that Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool will all end up with by tonight. We all want depth but that has to balanced with the financials AND how much a player in position 25, 26, 27 etc is likely to contribute vs gaining value/experience out on loan, with someone picked out of position for a couple of games instead or an U21 stepping up. 31st August 2024 (subject to late change) GK E.Martinez R.Olsen J.Gauci RB M.Cash K.Nedeljkovic CB E.Konsa D.Carlos L.Bogarde CB P.Torres T.Mings LB L.Digne I.Maatsen DM A.Onana B.Kamara DLP Y.Tielemans R.Barkley RAM L.Bailey J.Philogene LAM J.McGinn J.Ramsey FW M.Rogers E.Buendia CF O.Watkins J.Duran 1st February 2024 GK E.Martinez R.Olsen J.Gauci RB M.Cash K.Kesler-Hayden CB E.Konsa D.Carlos C.Chambers CB P.Torres C.Lenglet LB L.Digne A.Moreno DM B.Kamara* T.Iroegbunam DLP D.Luiz Y.Tielemans RAM L.Bailey N.Zaniolo LAM J.McGinn M.Rogers FW M.Diaby O.Kellyman CF O.Watkins J.Duran 1st September 2023 GK E.Martinez R.Olsen F.Marschall RB M.Cash C.Chambers CB E.Konsa D.Carlos CB P.Torres C.Lenglet LB L.Digne A.Moreno DM B.Kamara L.Dendoncker DLP D.Luiz Y.Tielemans RAM L.Bailey N.Zaniolo LAM J.McGinn J.Ramsey* FW M.Diaby B.Traore O.Kellyman CF O.Watkins J.Duran *got a long term injury after the transfer deadline 1
