If we sell Duran who is our backup striker next season?

Just because Watkins doesn't get injured long term and has been lucky to have not been so far in his career doesn't mean he won't at any point in the future.

I worry if he's single handedly leading the line again for us next season, we could play another 50+ games which is a big ask having no rotation option in place.

Poor guy looked burntout towards the end of last season, with no goals in his last 5 matches and he won't get much of a break over the summer because of the euro's either.

As someone who’s married to an Italian football fan, and who also supports a team there, I can assure you that he’s seen as their version of Ornstein, although Ornstein has an even higher success rate as he won’t comment until it’s all done, whereas Di Marzio will comment at a negotiation stage.

It’s Nico Schira and all the others that aren’t reliable.

I’m married to an Italian too!

Not sure if anyone cares, but Viljami Sinisalo just said on TV that he has more than 10 teams to choose from for next season. I didn't catch the whole thing, but no mention of Villa at all. I think he'll leave, which is a mistake.

I never really know how to fully interpret these, but my monkey brain has worked out, he’s no where near what we want/need/could work with

Forget McKennie, if we’re negotiating with Juve then this guy makes more sense.

Give me him, Dean Huijsen + 30mill and you have yourself a deal 😏

Mckennie on loan view to a permanent(which we don't activate) but entices Juve to loan him to us.

A Turkey special.

Might work.

If we sell Duran we’ll sign another striker I assume.

Pretty straightforward mate and you got it bang on 👍

Probably the best or easiest kind of visual representation and comparison to look at.

Obviously, stats don’t give the full picture and lack complete context, especially when taking into account different countries, leagues, opposition, competition etc but give a good enough idea. Like the frequency and accuracy of certain actions, such as different kinds of pass. And we can never tell or predict the improvement a manager and coach like Unai can bring in a player either… not everything is so tangible.

What seems to be being overlooked, is that Unai wants and we require pass masters or technicians in the side to give us the control we need and crave… if you lose a player of that kind, you need to replace with the same sort or even better.

A box to box, high energy presser (like a Gallagher) is not really a replacement for a player like Luiz or Tielemans… nor a DM like Kamara… but more of the McGinn type who can or tend to play on the left or right of the midfield in Unai’s set up.

We need players like Luiz and Tielemans in the centre of our midfield, backed up by a defensive specialist such as Kamara (this is what we need, more than anything else).

He’s not very good though so we’d be lumped with his salary all season….doesn’t seem a good deal either

Something that’s slightly interesting that I mentioned in Dougies thread is that Kia Joorabchian (Dougies agent) has put a release clause in his second top client (Zirkzee).

Isn't Zirkzee going to Thermopylae?

Vlahovic when we swap Luiz for him.

I care quite a lot about this one, and rumours that it's mostly because I started his thread are not accurate and should be ignored . . .

Anyway, given the season he had and his stated desire to play for us in the PL and the - AIUI - quite high regard he's held in at the club, I doubt he'll be leaving in a way that leaves us no options, ie I'd expect either a Championship loan or a sale with some kind of long-term option on our end.

I hope so. I saw him speak thougthfully for the first time, and really liked his personality. He wouldn't melt under pressure. He said he was just a kid a year ago, but now is grown up, a man. Likes to learn from Hradecky too.

Yeah, he came across extremely well in that Exeter video IMO. Think he'll go on to have a very good career.

The one I'm talking about just aired on Finnish TV at half time of Portugal-Finland game. He spoke Finnish, so I think I got a bit more from it than when he speaks English.

Ah, okay (I didn't realise you're Finnish!)
