bcarpet
Poor half but you sense if we get 1 then we will probably go on and get 2 or 3. Hoping for a few tweaks at half time
JoshVilla
We definitely have another gear in us, whereas I think this is as good as Forest can be and they'll begin to tire. Definitely swap Zaniolo for Bailey 2nd half.
Sulberto21
Big opportunity that we’re not taking. The ref is giving them free kicks for the same fouls they’ve made against us. Our passing in the final third has been poor.
thunderball
Not poor, quite even. Haven’t hit our heights. Strangely stuggled in the middle of the park and little space to run into. Luiz is off the boil but I think it’s because there isn’t the usual cohesion of players around him (McGinn/Diaby/Kamara). Cash too often has no target when receiving the ball in their third. Hopefully Unai has the plan to break this down and offer more space and chances, but you feel vulnerable on their breaks. Need an early goal. Davkaus
Just now, tonyh29 said: You know a ref must be special when both sets of fans are turning on him but he’s been shockingly bad Yup, horrifically inconsistent. On balance, I think we've got the better end of the bargain due to the big call for what should have been their second goal, but he's letting so much go, then giving other incredibly soft things. Must be so frustrating to play with a ref who's about as predictable as a coin toss.
meregreen
If places are earned on merit, Zaniolo won’t come out second half.

Herman22
I’d consider changing the left side. Get both Bailey and Moreno on. Or maybe Tielemans for Zaniolo and get Diaby out wide on the left with an another body in midfield.
The_Steve
Diaby and Cash were way worse than they should be. Zaniolo frustrates a lot but him and Digne are offering more attacking wise. Very poor half. But we did eventually wake up. Too many silly mistakes.
Tayls
Unfortunately these types of defeats (if it stays like this) are why we will find it hard to finish in a champs league spot. This was a chance to gain some points on the competition which we would have failed to take advantage of. The incentive to win should be massive. villa4europe
They spent so long looking at the offside they didn't bother looking at the forest player falling over with a slight breeze rather than being fouled... Was never a penalty in the context of how this game has been reffed
UpTheVilla26
Not happy with that half. We've been really shit and the only thing that's been shitter is that clown referee I'd get Carlos on and go 3 at the back, switch it up.
ender4
This is when you see the difference between a top four team and a 5-8th place team. Man Utd will always scrape a goal back when they are behind and playing badly. Liverpool would go on to win this 2-1. Man Cty can come out in the second half and score 3 goals. What can we do when losing and playing against a team who will now be happy to sit back and counter occasionally?
bannedfromHandV
They’re doing very well to close down any space in their half and in the middle of the pitch so we’re struggling to link up, they’re always going to look dangerous on the break with the pace up top. stewiek2
That was a Lambertesque performance. Lots of possession but it being along the back line. Cash has no overlapping player so is constantly having to turn back and play it back, thus allowing Forest to get back and restructure. Cooper has played us superbly. Time to earn that birthday cake Unai as this isn't working.
StefanAVFC Posted November 5, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted November 5, 2023 Cash is just appalling. If we’re going to have our RB to be such a key part of our attack then we need a huge upgrade. All he does is cut back. Doesn’t try through balls, doesn’t take on his man, doesn’t cross it in. Shite.

AndyClarke
Awful from Villa, but this referee is appalling, Forest physical and going allowed to get away with it. For their penalty appeal, surely if VAR had gone back they'd have broken their own rules. The ref blew his whistle and gave offside, there was no penalty decision to check.
