It clearly has no rear windows but the pedant in me says that isn't what the tweet is claiming Pedantic as ever They don’t face each other at the rear, it’s side to rear. Postage stamp gardens, poor build quality and not adequate parking provisions. I don't know why people move into them. Give that a few years and there will be cars parked everywhere and neighbours fighting and arguing. Like that horrible incident in Somerset where the ex army bloke killed his neighbours due to parking disputes. Loads of similar developments in Lichfield and Telford. Not going to happen on that estate, some of those houses are 300K, especially the ones at the front with exquisite view of the massive culvert they had to build because the houses are built on a flood plain that even the local farmers said was shit land The culvert is so big they've had to position lifebuoys along the road Planning permission was refused three times because of the flood plain issue

Popular Post Chindie Posted July 27, 2022 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted July 27, 2022 (edited) The Tamam Shud case, or the Mystery of the Somerton Man, has come up in the news this week for some new developments. The case is very interesting. In 1948, on a beach south of Adelaide in Australia, a man was found dead. He was in his 40s, appeared fit, and had no identification on him. His belongings seemedy to amount to a few cigarettes, matches, a US made comb, some gum, and seemingly unused rail and bus tickets. He was well dressed in a suit and tie, with all labels removed, his clothes apparently being tailored in a distinctly US manner. One of his trouser pockets had been repaired with strange orange thread. A post mortem revealed cause of death as heart failure, and he showed signs of having been poisoned - his stomach had become filled with blood, for instance - but there was no trace of poison itself. Physically fit, he had pronounced high calves and his feet were deformed in a manner similar to those of ballet dancers, making some suspect the man had been a dancer. This was further supported by the fact his hands did not show evidence of being a manual worker, meaning he was likely someone who's lifestyle required his being fit but not through heavy labour work. He did have some medical issues evident - he had an extremely large spleen, 3 times the size of a normal spleen, which is a result of various long term illnesses. A month later a suitcase was found at Adelaide train station. It contained some more clothes with removed labels, together with some vests and a tie labelled 'T. Keane' and 'T. Kean'. It also held some scissors with sharpened points, a knife that had been cut down to a small point, a brush used for stenciling, a piece of zinc that seemed to be used as a sheath for the tools, and some Barbour thread that matched that used to fix the pocket on the mystery man's trousers. The last thing found, following a further check of the man's clothing, found a scrap of paper in a fob pocket, saying 'tamam shud' in a distinct font. This phase is Persian and translates to 'finished' or 'done'. The distinctness of font meant the book it was from could be traced. In fact the exact book it was taken from was found. And that lead to a further mystery - investigation of the book found imprints of notes being taken on the book, which seemed to reveal a cypher, which had never been solved. Bizarrely the book also had a telephone number for a woman who lived 400m from where the body was found. Said woman denied knowing anything about the man, although it's widely believed she was lying. No identification could ever be made of the man and it has remained a mystery. Last year the body was exhumed. And now this week a man from Adelaide University chains to have identified him as Carl 'Charles' Webb, a Australian electrical engineer, identified by DNA analysis of hairs found of a plaster cast taken of the body when it was found. Of course that still leaves the mystery of exactly why and how he came to be dead on a beach in Adelaide. But now it seems the Somerton Man at least has a name.
