Well if they were observing my solution it was this: Stare at overflowing cup. Look up and look around for help. Look at cup. Strong strong willing vibes for machine to stop. Tilt cup to pour some more coffee in to spill tray. Drag bottom of cup along work surface to get rid of some drips. Walk back to table with sticky cup and inform wife of the absolute carnage I have just witnessed. Depending on local state laws, they may not have had such things.
