Popular Post mjmooney Posted December 11, 2021 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted December 11, 2021 (edited) 'Rip van Winkle' the short story about a man who slept for 20 years, was written in Birmingham. Its author Washington Irving - who also wrote 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow - wrote 'Rip van Winkle' in one night whilst visiting his sister and her husband in June 1818, at their home on the junction of Frederick Street and Legge Lane in what is now the Jewellery Quarter. The Fun Factory
It was only in 1970 that the Royal Navy ended the daily rum rot. This consisted of a one-eighth of an imperial pint (71 ml) of rum at 54.6% strength given out at midday. The powers that be were concerned over the effectiveness of operating machinery after the daily tipple. All this talk of rum has made me a bit thirsty. I might have to splice the mainbrace myself.
