TheMightyVillans
harsh red... his foot rolls over the ball causing him to go into the player. He would have lost control of his foot when he connected with the ball. Edited September 30, 2023 by TheMightyVillans
bobzy
I think that’s harsh - but we live in a football world where people want red cards for studs showing.

Mr_Dogg
You are responsible for your body and where it ends up Gary Neville obsessed with motive, nothing to do with it. Edited September 30, 2023 by Mr_Dogg
NoelVilla
Don't care. It's a decision against Liverpool and therefore Im fine with it.

Rightdm00
Maybe I don't know the game but you can't go over top of the ball while making a tackle. That's why the rule exist. Same rule for the Chelsea red. 2

theboyangel
Looked like a red card to me (and it’s against a Liverpool player so awesome decision!) Edited September 30, 2023 by theboyangel
OutByEaster? Posted September 30, 2023 Moderator Share Posted September 30, 2023 Absolutely obvious red card that. Neville claiming his foot slipped off the top of the ball - that's a foot that's eight inches off the ground and flying then Gary eh? If his foot comes through the middle of the ball and he catches him on the follow through then fair enough, but at the height he's come in at it's a blatant red - the ball didn't duck out of the way.
Rightdm00
Put it like this if a Villa player had his leg broke from a tackle like that I would be livid. Could care less about "intent."

In the modern game that's a red more often than not. Difference (for me) is that Gusto jumps in with… well, gusto. There’s force behind it so it’s a genuinely dangerous challenge even though he “gets the ball”. This one is a foot in that slips over the ball. There’s no force or intent. But as @StefanAVFC says, this is what the football world wants.
StefanAVFC Posted September 30, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted September 30, 2023 Not sure force is relevant either. He absolutely wasn't in control of his body, and the end result was a straight leg, studs up tackle on another player's shin. It's a red all day.
MWARLEY2
If you are out of control in the tackle these days then it is a red. Same thing happened last night for the villa u21s. Our rightback had too much force and was deemed out of control and a straight red. Same thing happened to the Chelsea player on Sunday. If it reduces the risk of serious injury then i am all for it
