That's quite a low bar to be fair, and probably unfair on Konsa.

DJBOB
Don't think any of the back line covered themselves in glory. The unit was broken all across the line. They came expecting a calm game and were overran time and time again.
VillaParkAvenue
The lack of pace is a worry with our current defenders. Lenglet looked very very slow, and then there’s Chambers and Digne. Pau is no sprinter either.
lexicon
His first game today so don't want to be too harsh. He didn't play well though and could definitely do with being a lot less passive.
Zhan_Zhuang
A big problem, mentioned in commentary was the lack of support in front. Kamara and Tielemans were non-existent.
TheMightyVillans
didn't think he was that bad. Was mostly pretty composed on the ball. Our issue was more with the fullbacks and central midfield. Edited September 22, 2023 by TheMightyVillans

LondonLax
The back line were hung out to dry by the midfield.
andym
Not sure he looked obviously slow, e.g. he basically matched Konsa in running back on the 2nd goal. Unfortunately i think he made completely the wrong decision, went charging towards Digne and his man, which meant Konsa had to stay central and couldn't cover the goalscorer.
wilko154
You can't really judge Lenglet from one game, especially in a makeshift back line. He needs at least 5 games in a Villa shirt to settle and get to know our system. I actually think he was the best defender in the side last night, and until a mistake near the end of the game had been pretty reliable. 1

Steero113
Was absolutely fine, no howlers and the goals especially weren't directly his fault. Looked reasonable on the ball which is a miracle considering he hasn't played in months. Our midfield, as others have said, left Konsa and him utterly exposed for the entire match. Vive_La_Villa
Only one game where as others have mentioned he was horribly exposed so hard to judge. Will need to see a lot more of him before can form a proper opinion.
VillaParkAvenue
Pass completion is easier when you almost exclusively play short sideways passes. But we’ll have to wait and see, it’s not like we have a choice.

I agree to a point. But I still think that defence would have been dodgy anyway. Even with a better performing midfield I hope never to see that defensive selection again. AV82
Going over to help Digne on the 2nd goal was amateurish. Totally abandoned Konsa who was then stuck between two positions and couldn't mark the guy who ended up getting the goal.
sheepyvillian
I'm not sure about Lenglet, could be the Premier League is a bit too frantic for someone with his pace. His positioning against Legia at times was embarrassing. Never again do I want to see him and Chambers part.of a back 4, unless we're playing Hibs.
