Popular Post JW7494
He does an underrated job of creating the space for digne to go into. He may not get the goals & assists at the moment but they will come. He is always on for a pass and actually gets into some good positions. Probably should have scored today but I don’t think he played badly 9
Popular Post OutByEaster? Posted October 29, 2023 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted October 29, 2023 He does something that the rest of the side don't do as well - drive at defenders - he's powerful and has good feet, wins us free kicks and get the ball up the pitch. He's been ridiculously unlucky not to have scored yet and I think it's coming. I don't see him as any sort of problem for us. At the moment though, one of the perhaps unseen positives he's having is motivating Bailey - Bailey seems slimmer, sharper and keener than in a while and I think the two of them can drive each other on. I like him, I think he's still settling and I think he'll improve as the season goes on.
Zatman
He is doing OK but he doesnt seem to pass it enough and prefers to shoot. For me he is below Buendia and Bailey in the pecking order

Plus Bailey doesn't play the same position Zaniolo is currently playing and Buendia is a way off being fit, like Ramsey. I actually think it's quite telling that Unai trusts him enough to play the role he does. He's also been unlucky not to score in most appearances so I don't think he's that far from clicking, he's getting into good spaces which is a positive. There is no doubt he could do better but l think once he settles, other players get fit and he perhaps plays in a more natural position, then people will see what he's really about.
Sulberto21
Against City I’d have him tickling Rodri. He’s got the physicality and the game to keep Rodri occupied. Imo.

Need to get Ramsey back so we can bench him to avoid triggering the obligation to buy. I don't believe there's any getting out of this transfer, if we wanted to.
villarule123 Posted October 30, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted October 30, 2023 I like him but I can't help but think there's another level or two we can go up with Ramsey in the team. And Moreno to come back too!
Vive_La_Villa
He’s doing alright. Could be better. He’s not weakening us which is the may thing and we’ve still got Ramsey to return. Hopefully he’s ready for the week we play city and Arsenal. Zaniola could do with a goal.
Rugeley Villa
I really like him he reminds me of a 90s kind of player for some reason . I think he will improve once he’s got used to the physically of the prem. He gives us something different.

It's a conditional contact, so if they aren't met then there is no obligation to buy. If the club doesn't want to sign him then it will need to be strategic about avoiding triggering the clauses. DakotaVilla
I like him a lot. He’s direct, a unit and a bit of a throwback of a player. I imagine the gambling stuff has been horrific to deal with thinking that you may not even play for the rest of the season. I suspect we’ll see a far more settled player after the international break and great to have options like him, Ramsey and Bailey all fighting it out for that one spot when the games start coming thick and fast. No doubt about it Zaniolo should have scored by now he's missed some very good chances.
villaglint
There is definitely something there. He could have easily scored about 10 goals for us so far. REALLY needs to get that first one though! He has got ability of that I'm sure - give him 6/12 months with Unai and he'll look like a world beater.
cheltenham_villa
I like him and i think hes contributing well to the team. Positives for me are: Drives at the defence. Great positioning when we are in transition, very similar to Mcginn he occupies the space between Midfield and the forward line. Hes very good at dragging the full back forward which gives Watkins lots of room to run in behind. Hes been a very good outlet for Emi because of his size. The issues for are really his numbers. Hes isnt contributing with goals and assists, Bailey and Youri are sat on the bench and are surely asking Unai what they do to do to start a game. When fit Ramsey will be doing similar. Its a great problem for us to have IMO.

He has a rawness alongside that physicality that is so reminiscent of those technically gifted players in the 90s (needed to be able to take a beating, while trying to go past players). I think this is why I like him: a mixture of a leggy Carbone with the robustness of Milosevic. You can see Unai must rate him highly to allow him in the team when he isn't fully immersed in the system yet. It takes players some time to get into Emery's style of play (see Cash last season). The resurgence of Bailey has made Zaniolo's steady progress look less impressive. Add to this the fact that the last few weeks have probably been some of the worst of his life and I'd say he's coping remarkably well.
