Definitely an.. interesting view of the badge debacle set out by Heck in this interview.

He'd already previously made the claim that he was unaware of the redesign before taking over (which given his remit and the publicity of the redesign seems a bit difficult to believe) but now there's a suggestion that it wasn't him that dropped it? Eh?

Also had a giggle at this. Like, hello?

He really doesn’t help himself. No self awareness at all.

as for the bit about the round badge and its branding. I think this quote is closer to the truth. There wasn’t any extra branding with the round badge, or non available to the public at least… so it was never made, or as Heck says it was ”dropped”.

So we have this so-called brand expert who pulled the plug on one professionally done design (despite his denials) and replaced it with a new cheap in-house design instead?

And is now gaslighting us with piffle like this?

Hmm okay.

Respectfully, I’m not sure the “in-house” aspect is something to worry about.  There are lawyers working for law firms and there are lawyers working in-house direct for companies etc.  It is no doubt the same in graphic design and what have you.  Someone in-house can be perfectly well qualified to do what is needed.

What's more plausible... That all he does is lie non stop, and the club ( Owners and Board  etc ) just allow him to lie non stop while keeping a job without consequence ...

Or... That maybe he's not lying 🤔

Don’t think they care, as long as he gets results

Sounds like he's realised the thing he had done 'in house' is **** diabolical and doesn't want to be associated with it.

Exactly. He thought the crest he picked would be accepted instead of roundly panned. Now he is trying to deflect any criticism away from himself.

The first one. The owners are only interested in him delivering increased revenue for the club. They don't care whether fans like him or not.

The line about him not knowing why the round badge was canned is pretty outrageous. How can you develop a new badge if you don't know why the old one is being replaced so suddenly?

Probably one of the remits of getting the job, “change this badge”

In that case, knowing why isn’t important

Yes it is. You need to know what to keep and what to avoid on the new badge.

You don’t need to know why to ask those questions.

I work in this industry. I’ve created logos/banding without knowing why they wanted to change. All I know is, it’s a paying gig and CarryOnWife wants a new sofa

And it was him. We heard in June 2023 that a launch was planned for the new round badge for the Brighton game and Heck the new appointment bummed it.

In May 2024, in the other puff piece Heck did, he said he was stunned to learn in May 2023 that we had a new badge lined up and he decided there had been insufficient consultation with fans!

He is actually quite like Trump in that he says whatever at whatever moment to get him through and must assume his audience has no memory of how things actually went or what was said previously.
