People always do this on VillaTalk. We get a player who is genuinely brilliant in his position and people want to move him.

There’s literally no need. We have great DMs, Pau is a great CB. Leave them there

And the fact he’s got close to no pace at all, he’s a CB for a good reason.

Apparently he was one the quickest in La Liga

Why!?!?!?!?!?

Why not? Just curious to if it would be difficult for him to play that kind of role.

lovely pass, nice vision, can tackle. Seems more DPL esq than CB…

he’s just a strange (yet good) player because of it. Not many CBs can play the ball like he can, but many CBs can defend better than him. It’s like he’s a half/half player and I’m curious to know if he could be as good in that DPL role. If not, why not?

And to everyone else, I have no desire to move his position. I just want to work him out better

At least no-one is speculating about selling him on for £100m. That seems to be the other thing people love to do once we get a very good player established on the side.

It's a completely different game playing in the two positions. He's fantastic on the ball for a centre back but there you have more time on the ball, generally forward players i.e. ones that aren't specialists in winning the ball back closing you down, different types of passes to play etc. If he's in midfield the game is suddenly 360 degrees, he has to move much, much faster on the ball, and show other qualities that are different to playing at CB. I'd say he's pretty much tailor-made to be a ball-playing left-sided centre back and nothing else, and he's excellent at it. Fortunately for Villa he just has some obvious drawbacks to him athletically that prevented one of Europe's elite or traditionally bigger clubs signing him earlier.

Finally I get an answer… thank you. I see the point

Now, I’d agree, he’s almost the perfect CB, just that athleticism that does prevent him from being an elite CB. If only he was stronger and could win a header. He’d be the chefs kiss of CB’s. But then again, if he was, we’d never been able to sign him. He’d be at Man City already

Yeah. Pisses me right off. Should be £110m.

This gif always slightly breaks my heart. I know he wasn't the best but you can feel the hurt.

Guy is a prick. I'm sure crying into his millions (of kebabs) caught the tears.

Impossible. He moves like an oil tanker. You need to be able to cover the ground in midfield. Pau is just fine where he is.
