IrishVilla10
I wonder if we’ll stay with castore if he was unhappy with the kit. We’ve had some shockers since we’ve been promoted, especially with kappa. Forrest just signed a deal with adidas, I’d love us to go back to Nike

Forrest just signed a deal with adidas, I’d love us to go back to Nike I doubt he's unhappy with the Castore badge - the only reason we'd change that is money. The kits are designed by Fanatics - the Castore ones, the Kappa ones and the Luke one. He'll be used to that as the NBA kits are (I believe) designed and manufactured by Fanatics with a Nike badge added (I know this is definitely the case with the NFL shirts and I think the NBA has the same deal) - so he'll have worked with Fanatics before and he'll have worked with this model of kit design. He'll have ideas as to what he wants I'm sure and those will be reflected in the designs he'll be asking Fanatics to present him - I also think he'll be convinced he can get more money from the kit sponsor, whether that's Castore, Nike or whoever. One of the things that came through is how much of the stuff he did in Philadelphia translates directly to the stuff he'll do here - and how many of the same companies and people he'll be working for - there aren't that many people that do his job in the world and it seems a lot of them know each other.

Doesn't tally up with the way I heard it. They'd certainly rather it hadn't been a betting company but when that one offered far more than anyone else it was accepted along with a lot of provisos and conditions. Interesting, too, that the man who signed off on that deal is no longer employed by the club.

My first line was with reference to a posters comment on the forum (I forget who now) a couple of months back when the sighting of this gambling logo was first revealed. (My comment might have came across a little sarcastic when read back). At first when it was mentioned - BK8, it also made me question what Nas&Wes would think the sponsor if this was going to be the one this season? So it's no suprise to hear you mention that they too were against it at first. And yes, It's equally no suprise to see the guy who made the deal happen is no longer with us either. maqroll
Picking up from the fan consult thread, one of the things that is a concern about Heck is that American sports executives are not held to account by fans the way they are in Europe, so he might be bemused by Villa supporters who demand transparency and accountability. We are we holding them to account? We have occasional fans rep group that can summarize the main views of the support base but it is hardly legally binding is it. We have no voting rights on the board, and do not own even 1% of the club. All of that went when Doug sold Villa to Lerner. If they wanted to they could do practically whatever they wanted, like increasing ticket prices by 15% year on year for example. Popular Post wishywashy
https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2023/september/19/villa-announce-appointments-to-senior-leadership-team/ Heck's entourage now announced. Quote Aston Villa President of Business Operations Chris Heck is delighted to announce four new appointments to the Senior Leadership Team at Villa Park. Ron Erskine has joined as the club’s Chief Commercial Officer. Ron is a seasoned commercial executive with 35 years’ experience in the sports business. His portfolio includes spells at global sports marketing agency, Octagon, as well as the NBA, the New York Red Bulls in MLS and most recently at CSM Sport and Entertainment where he was responsible for the commercial programmes at the US Open Tennis Championships and the WTA Tour. Following Ron into Villa Park, Ben Hatton joins as Chief Operating Officer. A chartered accountant, Ben brings 25 years of international football experience to the team. He spent 10 years at Manchester United, AS Roma and most recently Blackpool FC where, as Managing Director, he was responsible for the transition of the club to new, stable ownership. Richard Stevens has come on board as the club’s Vice President, Strategy and Analytics where he joins from global mobility app, Free Now, having also spent six years consulting at KPMG. And, completing the line-up of new hires, is Ryan Disdier. Ryan arrives as Vice President, Content and Digital. An experienced social media executive, Ryan has worked with the Philadelphia 76ers and the Washington Wizards in the NBA as well as the Washington Commanders in the NFL. Elsewhere, Club Ambassador and former player, Ahmed Elmohamady, is now working closely with the club’s commercial department in a full-time capacity. Chris Heck, President of Business Operations, said: “I’m delighted to be able to welcome four fantastic operators in their respective fields to the Senior Leadership Team at Villa Park. And, of course, bring Elmo back to the club in an official role. “This has been a thoughtful process, looking at areas we could strengthen our existing management structure, and I’m excited we now have a team in place that can help project this great football club forward as we embark on the next leg of our exciting journey. “It’s time to awaken this sleeping giant of a football club – both on and off the pitch - and our supporters have every right to feel excited about what the future holds. Aston Villa is a huge, historic institution that is on the rise again.” Edited September 19, 2023 by wishywashy

The Stevens appointment could be a bit weird. If it is strategy and analytics for the club on the footballing side then it's strange given his previous experience. But it makes more sense if it is more in a commercial capacity with marketing analytics. Also elmo working at a senior levelon the commercial side with no previous experience is a bit risky - unless it was nas getting a job for his mate. Villatillidie95
I imagine Elmo has been brought in on the commercial side to help foster links with zed fc and also to give sponsors the “star treatment”, rolling out an ex player instead of just the money men. At least that’s my theory lol

wishywashy
Clearly the appointment of Heck and co. is an Americanisation of the commercial department. I do wonder a bit about the viability of his quite public committments to increasing prices and targeting hospitality while the non-footballing services on offer (including to hospitality fans!) have been dreadful for a long time and are somehow getting worse. You'd imagine something's going to give at some point if there aren't marked improvements. He's got a lot on his remit, to say the least: even if you ignore the hospitality conflict some areas such as Villa Park and the commercial strategies have been pretty questionable in their approach. I've only done a bit of marketing in my life but I'm not sure announcing a highly controversial and divisive decision on the badge (with radio silence since then..) within the launch itself was a clever move. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm also pretty sure they didn't even bother to put up the kit launch video on social media, only on VillaTV (Straying off topic for a minute, I beg of you Heck, please do something about whoever Villa outsourced the website to, it's baaad. A good website does not take 10 seconds to load an article page). Most of the commercial issues obviously precede Heck, but going to have to improve on his first impressions pretty rapidly: his first move being to cause a palaver over the badge and his first in person meeting at the AGM seemingly terribly thought through is not the greatest of starts. We'll see. Given the state of the commercial department at the moment it can only really get better from here. You hope so, anyway.
